Hello All!

What another gloriously sunny day Tuesday turned out to be! I was busy working from home but managed to enjoy a little sit in my garden at lunch time. I hope you have been able to enjoy the weather and spending some time either on a walk or in your outdoor space! I think it probably was not the right weather for bread making but do let us know if you tried out one of those lovely recipes we posted yesterday.

It is always lovely to get emails and photos from you and it seems that trips out have been the order of the day! In the photos we can see Guy using a map to find his way along the canal walk and Thomas and his family enjoying a short drive to a local beauty spot. Both outings look like they were so much fun!

So much fun and full of learning opportunities. Counting , reading, looking, climbing, balancing and enjoying a long walk!

Challenge: can you make a map or plan of a walk you have been on?

To the shops or to the woods or around your house.

Or you may want to make a story map of a favourite story like the “Enormous Turnip” or “We’re going on a bear Hunt” or even today’s story about the journey of a “Stick Man!”

If making a story map is not for you why not find some sticks on your walk and create your own Stick family! You may need some glue and perhaps pipe cleaners to make arms or a scarf? I am sure you will come up with your ideas of how to make and clothe your stick family.

You might want to make some ice lollies as we suggested on a previous web post.

Or grown ups why not freeze some small toys in a container tonight, you can colour the water if you wish, and then your child can have fun seeing the ice melt and exposing the hidden toys!!

It is our turn to work from school today so if you need to call for a chat or you have a query one of us will come to talk with you!

Take care and have fun again in the sun!

Tuesday 19th May Making Bread and making up a Story Square

Hello and Good Morning Everyone.  What a wonderful Monday we had,  it was such a clear and bright day. I finished looking after my plants before heading into work. It was a great delight to open my emails and discover all of the experiments and art explorations you have been engaged with last week and over the weekend.

Look at these explorations, they are Fantastic …I LOVE to look at your faces and your excitement.

I also opened a wonderful email from Mrs Heap…Ching Ching has been having more adventures at her house.  He has been baking! just like lots of you in your houses. He has sent us a bread recipe. If and when you find the ingredients, you might want to try and make some bread like Ching Ching.

Mrs Penn said that Ella from Base 2 has also sent in a bread recipe that she has made at home . Just look on Base 2 home learning if you want another bread recipe without yeast and strong flour.  See which recipe suits you.

ENJOY the video of Ching Ching and Mrs Heap cooking. It will make you smile. I hope you enjoyed making your bread today click  the blue for a pictorial recipe.

Today’s story is a Story Square by an author you know!

Have a quick read and maybe it will inspire you to tell a story and draw pictures. Remember a Story Square is a story that your child tells you…You just write down their words EXACTLY as they say them!..We usually act out these stories at school but I will keep  all of the stories I have sent until we all return to school.  You could have a story show at home and let them act out the story they have told… ENJOY.

My Story is called Castle and the Beast

When the car comed and the teeth comed and a lip comed and then an eye comed jumping and a number Jack called 3 and 4 . 4 is the blue one, 3 is the pink one and the red one. And then a baby comed, a little one without a mummy her name was a Lydia.  And then a beautiful big, big, big, big, big, big butterfly comed and then some shorts and then suddenly a fish comed.  Written by Rosie age 3

Have a lovely Tuesday and enjoy your time together exploring new learning. Keep Smiling and Keep Safe. Miss Butler, Mrs Breakwell and Miss Lofthouse.

Good Morning all

What a beautifully sunny day Monday turned out to be! I hope you were able to spend some time playing outside? I managed a little bit of gardening and the seeds I planted seem to like the sunshine and the water I give them each evening as they are growing so well? How are your seeds growing if you managed to plant some?

Mrs Heap and Ching Ching have been busy  making another video! This one is all about making bread. After you have watched the video click the blue writing for the activity sheet Mrs Heap has made for you!

Click the blue writing for the activity sheet:  I hope you enjoyed making your bread today

You may remember that I recently posted a photo of Ella and her bread making. Her recipe is different from Mrs Heap’s and Ching Ching I have added it below in case would like to try and make Ella’s bread!

                                                Ella’s bread recipe

This is my friends recipe that we used I didn’t use the cheese. I added 2 teaspoons of baking powder to every 150g plan flour to make the self raising flour.

Preheat oven to 170c
Grease and flour a cake tin loaf tin or even a Pyrex dish

In a large bowl mix:
400g flour – any kind but we use self raising or plain flour
1 table spoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder (I add this even if using self raising flour)
Add any flavour if you want at this stage eg pesto , olives or chili flakes

To the dry ingredients add:
330ml of cheap fizzy beer / cider or fizzy water

Mix by hand with a fork until it’s mixed but the consistency of angel delight ( you might have to add a little more water depending on the flour)

Top with grated cheese (optional)

Once you have a gooey bubbly mix tip into the tin and put the tin in the middle of the  oven for 40 mins no peeking

Once cooked, Tip it out, tap the bottom and it should sound hollow

Super easy peasy cheesy bread why not give it a try?

All this bread making has reminded me of the 5 currant buns song!

You could make your own bakers shop perhaps with pretend buns that you can make from play dough or cut out from an old magazine or you could draw some buns. You may choose 5 or 8 or 10 or 15 buns in your shop and maybe you can count out the same amount of pennies so your family can come and buy  1 or 2 or 3 buns. You have to add up the pennies they need to give you each time and sing the song calculating the buns you have remaining in your shop!

On my daily walk I was amazed at how tall some of the wild flowers and grasses seemed to have grown!

On your next walk see if you can complete this  measuring challenge:

Find a flower or grass that is the same size as yourself

Find a flower or grass that is the same size as your grown up with you (mummy, daddy)

Find a flower or grass which is taller than yourself

Find a flower or grass which is taller than your grown up

Find a flower or grass which is shorter than yourself

Find a flower or grass which is shorter then your grown up

If you have brothers and sisters they can join in too!

Please send us the photos of you doing this!

The story I have chosen today is about different sizes! It is about 2 bears and a very dark night:

“Can’t you sleep Little bear” I hope you enjoy this story!

Whatever you choose to do today we hope you have some fun hopefully in the sun!

Mrs Heap, Mrs Coleman and Mrs Penn

Monday 18th May 2020

Hello Everyone!

We hope that you enjoyed the weekend! What beautiful weather we have had! We managed our first walk on a the beach on Saturday evening and we saw this:Somebody had made a little boat from wood with a little mast and flowers around it. I think they left it for the sea to take it off on a journey; I wonder where it will travel too? Did you try the floating and sinking activity in Friday’s post ? Perhaps you have made a boat?

As ever it is so good to receive emails and photos from you! Learning is happening in all the activities you do at home. We have seen you cooking and now I can see that you are excellent at helping with DIY projects! obviously when using real tools you need your mum or dad to work with you. In these photos Cyrus worked with his mum to make a chest of drawers what an achievement!

Keep on enjoying building with construction kits. Planning and connecting these kits or balancing blocks will help you gain the control and skills you will eventually need to build big objects even furniture!

While I was talking to my friends on a video call this weekend I noticed that on the wall behind my friend was a lovely collage of a sunshine. It is made of colored stones and connected with metal, I suppose this is a  sculpture picture?

Challenge: Can you create your own sunshine you could find objects to lay on the floor to make you sunshine (no glue is needed) it could be big or small? You could draw a sunshine to show me. Core radial drawings are important developmental stage as children develop their pen skills.

The story I have chosen today is about an echo. It is called “Little Beaver and The Echo!” I hope you enjoy the story.

Mrs Heap wondered if you recognised the places Ching Ching visited on the sheet we posted on Friday? Why not send her message either via the website or through “admin@haytorview.devon.sch.uk”

Take care Mrs Penn, Mrs Heap and Mrs Coleman

Monday 18th May Flowers, Butterflies and paint

Hello Everyone…. Good Morning It’s MONDAY

It was definitely a birthday weekend for my family with two of my nephews celebrating their special days. I also know two girls in our class had their birthday on2 Sunday…Happy Birthday to you two…both 5 yrs old now.

.

The plants in my garden are growing and GROWING!  I wonder if your plants are also growing fast and strong?

I wonder if you are noticing how more things are growing when you are in your garden or on you walk or trip out?  It lovely to see that more of you have been learning to press flowers. Flower pressing can take a long time for some flowers to dry out.. The pictures are always impressive.

The flower imagery looks so impressive when added into a frame.

If you have not yet tried to print and dry out flowers…Try it’s easy and all of you need is 2 pieces of kitchen roll and a couple of heavy books. Enjoy and create  your own beautiful pictures.

  •   Over the last two weeks I’ve challenged you to draw and make spirals to strengthen your fingers and create snails. This weeks I wonder if you can continue this skill of making spirals but instead of a snail you could use the spiral to represent a flower… or something else!Did you manage to explore cotton bud painting? look at these lovely dot exploration.
  • I know some of you might not have paint at the moment but when I was silk painting this weekend I recalled another way that you could paint without paint but instead using food colouring.

  • Its very similar to the butterfly prints you can make folding paper with paint but this time you don’t need paper but KITCHEN ROLL!
  • 1st Ask your child to fold the kitchen roll (That is a hard skill !)
  • 2nd Add water and colouring into mini pots or saucers
  • 3rd carefully dip the kitchen roll into the food colouring.
  • 4th Open and lay the kitchen roll out, on paper to dry, you can hang it up if its not too wet!
  • WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW AS A DEMO…..

Today’s story is a particular favourite of mine… Amanda’s Butterfly by Nick Butterworth, Enjoy.

Have a lovely day and look carefully and see what you can find outside in you garden or on your walk today. Keep Smiling and Keep Safe Miss Butler,  Mrs Breakwell, Miss Lofthouse.

Friday 15th May Making Yogurt Pops and Lid Banjos

Good Morning Everyone. I was delighted when I went into my greenhouse this morning, I have more seedlings that have at last decided it is time to grow!!! They must have heard me praising Lily’s pea plant and Reece’s strawberry and sunflower seeds! Now all I need to do is keep them alive like you both!

YOU have been busy in the kitchen again…..

I will have to make a cooking and baking space in our classroom when we return. Your skills are getting better and better each time you make something new. Mrs Breakwell found me some of my Gluten Free flour in the shops, so this weekend I can make cakes again! YEAH!

Now I wonder is you have made your own yogurt ice pops before?  You could make them ready for when it gets warmer…It is supposed to get warmer this  Sunday and next week and ice pops will be needed!! All you need is plain yogurt, banana, mixed frozen berries, and honey

You toss all the ingredients into a high powered blender and puree. Divide evenly between paper cups then cover with aluminum foil and pierce foil in the center with a lollipop stick to hold sticks in place. I placed a slice of a banana on the bottom of my paper cup to hold the stick up. It worked great and then you get a nice big bite of a frozen banana at the end. You then freeze them for 4-5 hours or until solid.

Mrs Heap and Ching Ching supported you to make musical instruments with rice and tins and spoons. Have you made your own Banjo before? All you really need is some elastic bands (or ideally loom bands), a lollipop stick and a jar lid. Then you can play your own mini banjo!

A traditional story with instruments… Do you remembered making puppets and having puppet shows in class. I wonder if you can make a puppet show at home

Today Ching Ching has been exploring..Click below to see where he has been .W.HERE DO YOU RECOGNISE ? click here…Out and About with Ching Chingx

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy time together. I hope to do some painting …My fingers are crossed that the weather man is correct and it will be hot and sunny.  From Miss Butler , Mrs Breakwell and Miss Lofthouse.

Friday 15th May 2020

Hello all!

Friday already! The weather this week has been bright, breezy if a little chilly and I hope the weather over this weekend is good for us all! This week we have suggested some science type of activities and so I thought we should continue this theme moving into the weekend.

I was chatting with Mrs Heap yesterday and she remembered a story called “Who Sank the boat?” by Pamela Allen and we think you will enjoy this story as well!

Why do you think the boat sank when the last animal, the tiny mouse, got into the boat??

Why not try some experiments with floating and sinking at homeYou will need a deep bowl filled half way with water

Items you find that you want to test to see if they can will float or sink? (toys, natural items, food you choose!)

Can you predict what will happen before you place the item in the water?

Can you make an item that sinks float?

Try and make your own boat from some paper, some wood and a plastic container. Which boat floats the best? Can you put some of your small toys in the boat and does it still float?

If your boat has a sail can you use your breath to blow it quickly across the bowl?

Kieran has also been experimenting with light and his torch!

You could try these activities as they look like fun! Perhaps you could hide some toys in the garden or balcony and then go out with your torch when it is getting dark to find them! Remember to count the objects you hide so you know how many to find!

What shapes could you create with your shadow or perhaps like Thomas when we were in school you can select items and look at their shadows in the sunshine?

Mrs Heap has sent me an activity sheet about Ching Ching out and about in Newton Abbot. Click the blue writing to have a look:

Good Morning all

We trust that you all had a good Wednesday! It was my turn to work in school yesterday and I had a very busy fun day! I managed a few phone calls to chat with you and I will try to make some more on Friday. When I got home I looked at some lovely emails and photos and as ever we are so humbled and proud of how our families are managing this time sensibly, keeping each other happy and safe being the priority, but also trying some of our activities as well as coming up with your own! One mum wrote this in her email  “ I’ve really been noticing how so many things we do together or ……… does solo are actually all aiding his learning and development.”

Mrs Heap reminded me of a rhyme that she enjoys singing with you at school and she has made this rhyme sheet for you! Please click the blue writing to open. This Rhyme comes with an activity make have fun!

The Bear went over the Mountain

Did you listen to the story of “Rosie’s Hat” yesterday? If you missed it please go back and view  the link from yesterday as it is a great story. I suggested that you create a journey or an adventure for one of your toys or indeed your hat, did you manage this? Do you think you could draw me a picture your story. If you fold some paper in half and then into quarters you can draw 4 pictures to represent your story. Or perhaps you could create a story map to show the journey your toy went on. Did your story involve a rescue ? Was it a fire fighter , a super hero, a  police officer or a member of your family who came to the rescue?

Here are some photos sent to me about your story making:

I was working in school yesterday and we played lots of games outside but one game that Mrs Breakwell invented was so much fun! She hid different colour wool strips (they were pretending to be worms!) in trees and bushes 20 green, 20 pink and 20 blue and then in teams we had to find them it was quite hard but great fun! In the end we found all but 1 pink one. We should have found 60 but found 59! You could play this game with your family inside or outside. You could choose the number and the colour each member of your family has to find!!

Today’s story is the one I read yesterday to children aged 5-9years old and they really loved it! As you listen to the story can you decide whether it is a fiction story which means: it is not real someone used their imagination or do you think it is non-fiction: this is real it could really happen?

As this story involves a picnic why not make a miniature picnic so your favourite toys can join you!

(Grown ups will need to support this activity but let your child cut up the fruits themselves)

you will need small containers like egg cups, lids, shells

Cut up some fruits and vegetables to fit in the small containers

make small sandwiches using small cookie cutters!

We hope you have a good Thursday

Mrs Heap, Mrs Penn and Mrs Coleman

Thursday 14th May Bubbles, Bees and Bird food

Good Morning. I was in school again yesterday. It is still so strange not seeing you all playing in the classroom or chatting together at lunch time. We played a bubble blowing hide and seek game today, designed by the children!! I’ve added a bubble liquid recipe at the end because I know bubbles are always so popular but the small liquid pots runs out so quickly. We even spilled half a pot on the floor today during our game!

Look at this amazing Birthday Cake ….‘Happy Birthday to you, Benjamin’. I’m so glad that you had a lovely day. It was great to hear your voice again today.. I hope you liked our singing!

DENS continued to be built today with windows, doors and I know the children want to carry these designs on tomorrow. I am not in school now until next week so I look forward to seeing how these ideas developed. Its wonderful watching how learning and thinking develops over time.

Look at this learning over time …. No wonder you were EXCITED… WOW ! Brilliant caring for your plant.

Today two more  snail spirals were sent to me ..we now have a mini friendship group of snails…I WONDER if you have you have made your spiral snail? We might have more paper spiral snails by the end of the week.

It requires perseverance to make a spiral snail.

Look at these lovely plants . I know so many of you are gardening …planting flowers, fruit and vegetables. It will be wonderful to watch these grow and bloom. Mrs Breakwell gave us all some flowers seedlings today..I will need to work hard to continue to care for the vegetables and now flower seedlings. I hear some of you are finding ways to feed the birds. I wonder if you have ever made a bird feeder? You can then watch the birds which visit your garden.

Another family are helping bees and flowers by hanging up a bee house in their garden. Lovely care for our natural world.

You could even make binoculars like this family to spot birds and insects .. Loving the rainbows!

Do you remember the story we read about Timothy Pope?  He didn’t have binoculars but a telescope… You might might want to make a telescope instead!  Click on the free reading resources.

Shark in the Park

Most recipe’s I have previously used require glycerin but its difficult to find this at the moment,  so I’ve found a new recipe for us all to try!

Enjoy your explorations and active learning . Keep Smiling and enjoying your time together as a family. Miss Butler, Mrs Breakwell and Miss Lofthouse.

Wednesday 13th May Cotton bud painting and Dice challenges

Good Morning The sun was really shining again on Tuesday and we spent a lot of time outside, playing tennis and building with tyres but DEN’S also became a huge interest again.  Have you made an outside den this week to give yourself  shelter from the wind or sun or built a new inside DEN?

This is the first paper snail I have been sent. Yes!! he’s standing up and has a cool curly shell. I wonder if he has any other friends out their that you have made this week?

Another wonderful concentration photo …Your interest in drawing is showing how much your finger strength skills are developing as you explore your imagination.  I wonder what else you can draw and make?

You could even add the swirls we have been learning about into your pictures.. Keep exploring the different ways which you can strengthen your fingers but also have FUN.

I know cooking is still such a strong interest for you all and an activity that covers so many skills. Just look at the concentration being demonstrated in this photo…. Brilliant. My Baking has not worked during my last 3 attempts….I need to keep trying practicing and learn from you all. I’m currently exploring how to use coconut flour!!! Its not working well at the moment…I will let you know If I find a recipe that works.

Have you got a dice at home in any of your family game… Have you used it to play physical Challenge games together? I wonder if you could challenge your sister, brothers and parents to move in different ways matching the number that you throw on the dice. Today in work I set a challenge for two girls and  they managed to jump over a masking tape line, 30 times  before falling onto the floor telling me they were now tired!!

I wonder what Physical Challenges you would create?

Enjoy your Fine ( finger) and Gross ( whole body)  physical challenges today? You might be exploring this inside or outside OR while you cycle OR cook., there are so many different ways in which you can explore your physical skills. HAVE FUN.

This is a story you might remember that we explored at school, F2 children …………..??

DO YOU REMEMBER PUTTING YOUR FEET into THE PAINT?

Keep Smiling and Stay Safe Miss Butler, Mrs Breakwell and Miss Lofthouse.
