School Council
Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) says that children and young people should have a say in decisions that affect their lives.
Following the COVID Pandemic we are reintroducing the School Council at Haytor View Community Primary School, their work was halted during the Pandemic due to maintaining ‘bubbles’ and children were engaged widely across the school in dialogue regarding matters which affected them as they managed their return to school.
Reintroducing the School Council will allow children to have a real say in issues that affect them, have their views heard and know their opinions matter. It also provides children with the opportunity to develop their public speaking, leadership skills, participation and collaboration.
The wider impact of the School Council enables all children to develop their understanding of participation, democracy, citizenship and accountability.
The School Council 2022 – 23 will be elected by their class peers, to represent the class and the views of the children.
More information will be available at the start of the Autumn Term.
