Wednesday 18th June 2020

Hello everyone!

What a lovely day we had yesterday with those whose turn it was to come into school. The children enjoyed some cooking activities and playing in and outside. Forest school was the most popular choice of favourite activities!

We cooked cookies and made apple crumble. Here is the recipe for apple crumble if you would like to try this at home. The children were encouraged to cut up the apple safely and to make the crumble enjoying rubbing in the flour and butter with their fingers! This recipe only makes a small quantity!

Apple (or fruit) Crumble

Ingredients:    1-2 Apples(or other fruit)                   Flour: 2 table spoons                                  Sugar: 1 table spoon    Margarine: 1 Table spoon        Small foil tray

Method:    Wash hands

Cut up the apple into small pieces and place in foil tray

Add butter and flour to the bowl

Rub these together with your finger tips

Add the sugar and mix in

Pour onto the apple

Bake for 20-25 mins until light golden brown 180c or gas mark 6

Joyful June activity: Wednesday

Be good to yourself give yourself a treat. What will you choose to treat yourselves mums and dads?

Maybe to sit and quietly read a book or magazine without any interruptions!!

How did you get on with the challenge yesterday to make a nest?

Today at Forest school the children loved creating potions to turn the grownups into goonies and zombies! Can you create a potion at home. You will need some water and items from the garden to add to it: grass, petals, leaves and even mud! You may also need to make  wand to create the magic for your potion to work! Words you might use mixture, potion, spell, abracadabra, mix, stir, mystery and magic! Go on have some fun!

Today’s story is called “Meg and Mog” by Helen Nicholl and Jan Pienkowski

What does Meg use for her Spell??

We wish you all a very happy Wednesday

Tuesday 16th June Designing using card and Cutting skills

Good Morning Everyone

I hope that you enjoyed a music, singing and dancing  session yesterday at home.. At school I was introduced to music from the New Troll film…. ALL NEW TO ME! I didn’t know a single word… I have a lot to learn!

I wonder how your painting went today on your salt dough? We painted outside in the sunshine,  it dried so much quicker. We have another coat to add next week.

Today we worked with sheets of card and everyone came up with different ways to use their card.

  • Drawing pictures
  • Making a magic wand and decorating it with gems
  • Designing a Peppa Pig baby

I wonder what you would make if you were given a sheet of white card? … The children requested the other items to complete their own projects… They are just BRILLIANT.

The children also had great fun playing in the mud kitchen I wonder if you have a piece of mud in your garden which could be your mud kitchenThey made their own pretend food with natural ingredients.

In the afternoon we went to Forest School and we explored the new hammock and traversing rope… You need to have great upper arm skills to be able to  pull yourself along the rope.

Have a great day and I wonder what you would make and design from a piece of card…. Cutting card is also a hard physical skill so I suggest that you explore your children’s cutting skill before you start designing.

Find out…What can your child cut totally independently?  How does your child hold their scissors?

If they still use two hands, find a softer/ easier material for them to cut and demonstrate how to hold the scissors in just one hand. It takes time and LOADS of practice to use scissors in one hand. Cutting is another brilliant handwriting activity.

Another story read by the Author … ENJOY .. Another new story for me!

Enjoy your Day and Keep Smiling and Keep Safe  Miss Butler, Miss Lofthouse and Mrs Breakwell.

Tuesday 16th June 2020

Good Morning everyone

I hope Monday was a good start to the week! Mrs heap and I spent the day with the key worker group who are exploring birds this week! Most of the children seemed keen to make a nest. Mrs Heap suggested a paper weaving activity and others created a nest from materials they found outside.

Challenge: make a nest.

Which animal will you create a nest for? Birds: robin, duck, eagle  or maybe a larger extinct animal like a dinosaur!

You could use cardboard to create a shape and fill it with nest like materials: shredded paper, feathers and so on

Maybe you would like to make a real mud nest with leaves, grass and moss collected from a daily walk

Perhaps you would like to try weaving a paper nest; you can use a circle shape

Watch this short video showing some nests

Joyful June  activity

Tuesday :Ask each other why you feel grateful at the moment.

I think that I feel grateful that I have a garden I can sit in and grow vegetables and flowers!

I wonder what you will talk about together?

Today’s story links to the bird theme it is called “A Busy day for Birds” by Lucy Cousins.

Do you know any bird songs you could sing at home?

Just to finish, Mrs Heap had a surprise visitor to her garden pond! She sent me the following photo! I wonder what sounds Ching Ching would hear?

We hope that you have a lovely Tuesday enjoying the sun, we hope, and trying out some of the activities! Remember to send us some photos of your fun learning at home.

Monday 15th June Music, Songs and Dancing

Good Morning Everyone, I hope that you had a lovely weekend.  I picked and cooked my first home grown courgette!!  I wonder if my other vegetable plants will grow as healthy, I will have to wait a few more months!

I wonder how well salt dough designs dried out and if you managed to paint them?

I hope that you enjoyed the story that I posted on Friday ‘ While we can’t hug. It really is a great conversation piece which is very pertinent at  the moment,  supporting children to talk about how they are feeling about the current situation is important.

I am sure that you have all had many opportunities to sing and dance together as a family.  When speaking to families on the phone on Friday many parents were telling me how their children were singing along to nursery rhymes or their favourite music.  So today I am going to post a range of musical activities and songs.

Which nursery rhyme or song do your remember from your childhood which you can share with your child?  I was walking along the SW coastal path on Sunday and overheard a dad stating skippity doo dah as his daughter skipped. These words instantly takes me back to the Walt Disney songs….Which Walt Disney songs do you know off by heart!!!?

Which songs from films do you always sing ?

This is a familiar Nursery Rhyme song but with added makaton signs. See if you can copy and join in with the actions.

I wonder if you have every made yourself a dancing ribbon which you can use when you are dancing to your favourite music. Dancing with scarves is another great handwriting activity !!! It exercises the children’s arm muscles while also being, GREAT FUN.

Have a great Monday and let me know which music you LOVE to sing along to;  in the car, or when cooking or while you are watching a film. Keep Smiling and Keep Safe Miss Butler, Miss Lofthouse and Mrs Breakwell

Monday 15th June 2020

Hello All

We hope that you enjoyed the weekend? I managed 2 lovely walks with my dog one to Parke, near Bovey Tracey, and one to the back beach at Teignmouth at both venues Ollie dog enjoyed large sticks and a swim! The sun was a welcome sight yesterday and so we did some gardening! Mrs Coleman and Mrs Breakwell have been busy working with groups of children in our school garden and it is looking lovely. They have cleared away some brambles and thinned out the carrots. I am sure we will have more gardening challenges this week!

Joyful June Challenge for 15th June:

Rediscover a fun childhood activity that you can enjoy with your children today!

What will you choose?

Chat with your child about the games you played when you were young and choose one to play.

Did you have access to screen games or not??

This week are looking forward to your company again. We have more cooking activities and outdoor fun planned! As well as time for you to choose to build, draw, paint and be imaginative!

Last week we set you challenges around being physical and using your senses we focussed on smell and touch; so today we are going to set some challenges that require you to use the sense of sight! Look at the following photos to give you ideas of things you can do.

Of course you may like to play hide and seek, another fun game from my childhood. Or you might want to hide items and give clues when your family are near. When I was a child we would say “cool, cold” when you were along way from the object and “warm, hot , burning!” when you were close to the item. You have to use your eyes all the time!

Today’s story was one my son enjoyed when he was little. It is called “Little Bear Lost” by Jane Hissey. Jane has written lots of stories about Little Bear. I hope you enjoy this animated version!

We hope you have a fun Monday playing games from the past and exploring games that need you to do good looking

Friday 12th June While we can’t hug

HI Everyone  We are at FRIDAY again, how did that happen! the days have gone by SO fast this week .  It has been SUPER busy.

In the Foundation Stage garden we have been clearing the weeds from the edge fence  so that we can plant clematis and honeysuckle to add more flowers in our garden. Mrs Coleman has supported the children to plant vegetables. Today we thinned out our mini carrots so that they could grow  into larger carrots which will be stronger.

.

In my garden my courgette and Beetroots plants are growing well. I wonder what you have been growing in your garden. flowers, vegetables, salad, or seedlings. Do send my some photos so that we can share these across the FS group. It will be great to see the variety of plants and vegetables in your gardens…. OR SNAILS….

I am sure that we are all still finding it difficult that we can not hug the people we love and share closer space. This week we have been sharing a video with the children of a new book called While we can’t Hug’

Take time if you can to sit with your child and watch this very short film and share a conversation about  how you feel, not being able to hug  family members that you love but others things you could do.

Have a lovely weekend and remember to spend time engaging in things that make you smile.

Friday 12th June 2020

Hello Everyone

Well here we are at the end of another week! It has been good to have the opportunity to play with you in school but we know that you are all still doing amazing activities at home! Please take time to upload the photos of your activities because we love seeing them and sharing them on our web page.

Joyful June (even in difficult times) activities for the next few days:

Friday: Make a plan to do something fun with your family

Tonight Mrs Penn is playing a virtual game of bingo and having a quiz with her family on the whats app video call and her family are in Bristol, Reading and London~ this will be fun!

Saturday: Appreciate the joy of nature

Sunday: Do 3 things that will bring joy to other people today.

I hope you are enjoying these Joyful June challenges I am!

Today in the Key worker group the children made a paper bag puppet. Some children made kite puppets, others animals and we even had a Yoda puppet! At the end of the day we had a puppet show in our puppet theatre made from a box. The puppets sang songs and even did their own dances. This weekend you could make a paper bag puppet and have a puppet show. Mum’s and dad’s and brothers and sisters can make one too! You could make tickets and possibly make popcorn too!

Today’s story we have been showing all week in school. It is called “While we can’t Hug”. Watch this together and talk about how we can, and have been showing each other that we care and love each other even when we can not hug!

We wish you all a happy, safe and joyful weekend see you on Monday

Thursday 11th June Ice Cream in a bag and Colour hunting

Good Morning .. I think I should call you Active Hunters instead of active learner after seeing the photos you sent me yesterday…. YOU REALLY took on the challenge of hunting for frozen toys .. I LOVED the CONCENTRATION and DETERMINATION in your faces. You are all just BRILLIANT .

Others are still hunting for snails and finding LOADS in old pots. As the rain comes we should all find more snails .. I wonder how many you can find ?

Look at these FANTASTIC learning pictures.. The determination is fabulous … But I think we would all have that feeling if our items were placed in ice !!!

  AT LAST!!!… GREAT ACHIEVEMENT FEELING!

LOVING THE PEPPA PIG and hand Prints

Your wonderful salt dough items could be left plain or if you wish could be painted with poster paint or acrylic (if you have any!) and secured with PVA glue when the paint is dry.

Physical  Learning also continued :… Jumping and riding …..TWO Great Photos of your fun as a family

I thought very hard today to find a challenge which would include your brothers and sisters and challenge your thinking and theirs so you can ALL explore a challenge together…  I used to complete this activity as a team challenge in previous schools, see what you think. It might take a while for you to collect all of the ingredients. The ice required can be ice cubes from your ice cube containers. We always wrapped the final bag in a tea towel as it was cold to touch.

I wonder have you all ever made ice cream in a bag?

While you are collect these ingredients I’ve added a different  Hunting Challenge .

I wonder if you can find a rainbow of things outside in the rain!! or sun depending on the weather over the next few days. There are so many more colour outside at the moment. How many different colours can you find?

A story for you I hope it makes you ALL Smile.… Enjoy and see which bits make you all smile and laugh…..

Have a wonderful day and I will be phoning more families today and tomorrow.  I look forward to  having the opportunity to say hello to some and sing Happy Birthday to others who will be 4 yrs old very soon!!

From Miss Butler , Miss Lofthouse and Mrs Breakwell.

It was so lovely to hear so many children yesterday with such lovely manners! A credit to you all we heard so many pleases and thank yous!!!!

Here are some fun finger strength activities for you to try at home:

Challenge try at least 2 of these activities today!

Joyful June: June 10th

Today take a photo of something that will make you happy

I wonder what you will choose. You may like to send to me to look at too!

We played for a short time with some small rainbow balls. We had fun rolling ,kicking and throwing the balls outside and then chasing them until they stopped before rolling them again! Brooke called this game the “chase the ball game!” try it in your garden or at the park!

Today’ challenge is to use your sense of touch!

Words that you may find useful to explore: smooth, spiky, bumpy, made of metal or wood or plastic, feels hot, feels cold, squashy and squishy and so on as you describe what you are feeling.

Today’s story is called “A Squash and A Squeeze” by Juila Donaldson. These are good descriptive words to describe how things feel or textures but how are they used in this book?

Have a happy Wednesday
