Finger Fun Friday and Easter Holiday Fun
Hello Everyone Good Morning
I understand that some of you may have had difficultly opening up some of the documents this week. I have saved all of the documents again as PDF’s so hopefully these will open on you phones, laptops etc. Click on the blue words for the PDF downloads for Thursday’s Challenge Bug Hunt Sheet Monday’s Challenge Creative Thinking
Dough Disco Finger Strengthening Fun… Remember we have used video this in class! Have fun.
Use can your own dough or EVEN make your own dough first
I saw some lovely pictures sent from families today (Thursday 26th March) of memory work and outside exploration So today’s Friday’s Challenge mixes the two skills together.
What do you remember seeing on your memory walk?
You can walk around your house or garden In the house name one thing from each room or each part of the room. Again if you choose to complete your memory walk outside or in the garden . pick out 6 things you you see along the walk. When you get back to the start. See if you can recall all of the things you saw?...A harder skill CAN you remember them IN ORDER?
Easter Learning
This term we have been learning to tell and act out the Traditional Tale : The Gingerbread Man . I’ve added a link to the story that was shared across the Foundation Stage unit on 18th March. Listen again and see if you can join in with the familiar phrases.
This is my version of the well-known story. No matter how many times you tell it, it still causes the same kind of surprise and enjoyment. It is a favourite with the parents and teachers as well as the children.

After Easter we will be looking at the story of The Enormous Turnip
We had just started looking at line work before we left. Your Easter Challenge is Can you decorate your own paper Easter Egg? . Remember we looked at various lines ….Waves, Zig Zags, Arches, Straight lines and Dashes. You can use pens or thin strips of paper. Remember the strips of paper need two feet! You can show your parents what I mean. When you have designed your egg.. Remember to create your own egg hunt. Hide your paper egg somewhere in your house or garden for your parents to find.

Friday 27th March 2020
Good morning base 2,
We have reached day 5 and the last day of learning before you go into the Easter holidays! You are all doing amazingly well.
For today I would like you to complete the following:
Exercise
I hope you are keeping up with Joe Wicks and are able to do the other exercises I gave you. Have many of you tried ‘Under the Sea’ Yoga that was recommended?
English
I would like you to consolidate your learning of Adverbials. On Bug Club I have allocated you a learning game called ‘Using Adverbials’. There are plenty of challenges for you to complete.
Maths
Play the ‘Multiplication Maths Game’ you were given.
Continue with your times table practise.

Reading and Comments
Continue with your reading.
Yesterday, David Walliams released a free audiobook on https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/. For those of you that like a routine, a new book is shared at 11:00 daily, however you can access any he has previously shared on his website at any time.
Life Education
Don’t forget to see what Harold has been up to: https://www.coramlifeeducation.org.uk/harolds-daily-diary
Easter Home Learning
If you scroll back through the webpage you will see ‘Easter Home Learning’. For the next two weeks you need to complete this.
I hope you have a well-deserved Easter break eating lots of chocolate (that includes mums and dads as well!).
Take care, Mrs Cousins.

Day 5 learning (Friday 27/03/20)
And so to the final day’s learning before the Easter break. You should have recorded four 20-minute reading sessions this week into your Reading & Contact book. If you followed the advice we talked about last week, you would also now have finished your holiday home learning (an extra hour each day this week.)
So onto today’s learning… but first a joke. Why didn’t Pythagoras like chips? Because they were made in Ancient Grease.
Erm. Ok then. Visit the Discovery Education Espresso website and log-in with the username and password you were given (you put it on the back of your Reading and Contact book on a sticker.)
Click on these options: Key Stage Two – History – Greeks – events
Watch the video clip – What was the importance of the Olympic Games?
Next, explore the link to the right of the video clip: Special Report – Olympics
Activity
Use the biggest sheet of paper in your learning pack to present your final draft of a poster about The Olympic Games. You should research it first and collect your information into your lined booklet. Compare the two versions of the Olympics: ancient and modern. Tell your reader about when they started, why they started, the different events, the clothing worn, the location, how often they were held and so on.
There isn’t an extension activity today – just spend longer researching your poster and drawing better pictures of the different events. This should take a lot of time today so it’s just as well you have finished your holiday home learning and this week’s reading! As usual, do your best.
Enjoy the Easter holidays as much as you can but remember, the most important thing is to follow the rules and keep yourself and others safe. I’ll be back after Easter with more learning and even more jokes! (Groan!) Bye for now… Mr Hankin

Friday 27th March 2020
We’ve made it to Day 5.
First week almost done and dusted!
Our bench is coming along nicely. Bethany and I have been busy preparing the paint, stirring it up to make sure it is nicely mixed and that the paint mixture is evenly mixed together. The paint had been sitting in the garage for well over a year and had separated. It was crucial that we mixed it. We then got our paint brushes out and started to paint it. It is looking better already! We have plenty of more coats to do yet before it will be finished.
Have you found a project yet? If not, it’s not too late to start.
Something new to do or explore
Art and Design
Create your own board game. Using the template create your own board game that you and all your family can play together. Be creative and have fun….

I hope you have all logged onto Discovery Education. If not and you are having difficulties, please email the school and the message will be passed on to me. I will get back to you with a solution as soon as I can.
On the front of the learning packs received towards the end of the week, there was a username and password for a resource called ‘Discovery Education’. On Discover Education you will find lots of different resources to support your child’s learning. Check out the section ‘Espresso’ – ‘KS2’.
I hope you have been able to log into Discovery Education. Today, I would like you to do the following activities.
English
Once in the section KS2, please go to ‘English’ – ‘Grammar and punctuation’ – ‘punctuation’ – ‘Using commas to clarify meaning’ – Watch the video. Have a go at the quizzes and activity afterwards.
Have fun learning and happy exploring….
Maths
Top Marks
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train
If you click on one of the four operations (+ – X ÷), it will bring you to a screen with lots of different activities. You can then choose for yourself the level of challenge you wish to have.
Mental Maths Train is a maths game which focuses on the essential vocabulary of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It can help children to understand what type of calculation they have to do when faced with word problems.
It is a multiple choice game that is suitable for children from 5 to 11 years of age. Mental Maths Train is also good for consolidation of times tables knowledge.
For the best experience press the full-screen icon in the top right corner of the game. As with all of our games, Mental Maths Train is tablet friendly and it works well on an interactive whiteboard.
Things to continue with
David Walliams Book Reading
David Walliams is reading one of his World’s Worst Children stories every day at 11am. Check out his website – https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/ to tune in.
Handwriting/Spelling
I have uploaded some handwriting/spelling resources. It includes the Year 3 and 4 statutory spelling list, along with another list of words we use every day called High Frequency Words or HFW spelling list. You do not have to use the spelling and the handwriting resources together but it works well using both together. The best thing to do is to only choose about 5 or 6 spellings at any one time and focus on those until they are learned rather than trying to learn too many at once.
Times Tables
Keep learning your times table. All the hard work is paying off!!! (https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/)
Bug Club
Keep going with Bug Club. I have updated everyone’s Bug Club account. Your login details are in the front of your home and school contact books on page, Wc 30th September 2019. I will be allocating activities on Bug Club for you to complete over the next while.
PE/Dancing
If you are following Joe Wicks – Well done – We did it as a family today and my goodness we were so tired by the end. We were doing it on catch up as we could not do it at 9am. So, if you miss the one at 9am, Joe saves the session to his Youtube channel so it can be accessed anytime.
Dancing with Oti Mabuse is live on her Facebook page where you can learn a dance routine. This goes live at 11.30am each day.
Topic
Continue with your Easter Topic learning. This is a project type task and it should take time to complete. Please see the previous post – Easter Home Learning for more details. To see the progress your project is making, you can create a photographic diary if you take pictures of the different stages of your learning. This would be something I would love to see uploaded to the website for me to see.
Again a massive well done to you all. What a week! The weather has been great. I hope you have all had a chance to get outside for a walk or out into the garden to explore and learn.
Have a great day.
Mr Whitty

Day 4 learning (Thursday 26/03/20)
Morning all. Hopefully you’re enjoying the activities so far? Apologies for not posting an activity yesterday – technical difficulties while working from home! I’m back in school now so no more problems!
All of this is a bit weird, isn’t it, but let’s make the best of it, eh?
Which reminds me of a joke: You know when scuba divers enter the water from a boat? Do you know why they fall backwards into the water? Because if they fell forwards, they would land in the boat.
Okay. Onto today’s learning…
Visit the Discovery Education Espresso website.
Log-in with the username and password you were given (you put it on the back of your Reading and Contact book on a sticker.)
Click on these options:
Key Stage Two – History – Greeks – life
Watch the video clip – Who did the Ancient Greeks worship and why?
Activity
Who were the 12 Greek gods, known as the Olympians? What were their roles? What were their special powers? Find out what you can about each god and record your research in note form (not full sentences) into the lined booklet you were given. Use other research sources, not just the video clip (in other words, use the internet to research.) This is a good source: http://www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/Greece.html
Extension Activity
Can you find any stories involving the gods? Find out about ancient Greek myths – stories involving the gods and humans and usually involving a quest (like Jason and the Argonauts!) Focus on one myth and present it as a comic strip (remember, like the King Midas cartoon in an old reading paper we did?)
Happy Thursday!
Good morning all,
I hope you are still all well and are managing to enjoy the sunshine.
Today’s maths challenge question is:
I’ve not yet managed to sign up to Carol Vorderman’s maths factor, I’d be really keen to know your thoughts if anyone has managed to sign up and have a go at the daily activities?
Please keep practising your Times Tables daily as well as using maths Prodigy.
For today’s literacy please log on to Discovery Espresso, KS2 English, Grammar & Punctuation, Punctuation and then watch the video and complete the activities on Using apostrophes to show singular and plural possession and Using commas to clarify meaning.
David Walliams will be releasing a free audiobook at 11:00 today @ https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/ For those of you that like a routine, a new book is shared at 11:00 daily, however you can access any he has previously shared on his website at any time.
I am completing Joe Wicks’ workout with my achy legs in our classroom today! It feels very strange without you all, but I must admit I’m glad you couldn’t all see me attempting the Spiderman workout moves yesterday!
High Levels of Concentration during Home Learning
- Stretching an elastic band between fingers ready for the challenge.
- Deep levels of concentration on the elastic band challenge
- Exploration of Loose Parts
- I’ve made a ‘Farm’
- Painting a rocket in the sun
These are some of the many pictures that have been making me smile as I watch you learning at home. The high levels of concentration are visible in the children’s expressions. What FANTASTIC learners, keep exploring and trying the different challenges that we set everyday.

Thursday 26th March 2020
We’ve made it to Day 4.
Today was a busy day. As well doing our learning, we got down to the business of transforming our bench. After a good wipe down, Bethany and I got sanding. It was hard work. It took concentration, resilience and time! We had to do the same thing over and over again. By going over the sanding we had already done again and again, we knew we were making it look and feel better. We often do this in our learning too. We practice our maths, writing, spellings or times tables over and over to polish them up or to make them perfect, It feels so good when we can see the finished result after so much hard work.
See the pictures of Bethany and I at work today. We learned so much about words and their meaning through our conversation. We learned that the word ‘coat’ has many different meanings and that it can be a noun and a verb.
Noun – Put on your coat.
Verb – The bench was coated in a thin layer a sawdust.

Outside Exploration & Memory Games for F1 and F2
Hello Everyone Its Thursday already!
HUGE Thank you again for the photos of your learning. KEEP THEM COMING. One photo I was sent today reminded me to ask you all , How is your cress growing ?
I will look out for your photos or questions about the learning everyday. The photos that were sent today shows me how creative you are being with the material you have at home. BRILLIANT.
Its been a beautiful day today and I hope that you managed to spend a moment in the sunshine. It was truly wonderful and I loved seeing the butterflies dancing around my garden. I was not so pleased to find millipedes and spiders but I know you would have loved to find them. Your photos show me how you are learning both inside and outside… chalking in the garden and painting rockets outside, Wonderful.
I wonder what insects you can find in your outdoor space?Bug Hunt Sheet
Also today Thursday 26th March I wonder if you can try to create and play a memory games together. You can even collect items around the house for your own memory game.
OR You could even make collect items from your outside space or garden to use in the game. See what you can find.
Game One: Play Which one is missing? Remember to name them all and then cover them over with a piece of material your partner closes their eyes and an item is removed . Then the items are uncovered …you have to guess which one is missing? Game Two: If you find two of each item, you can play Match the items! place the items into pots, one pot per item, You can create your own lids from paper etc, then you have to remember the placement of a pair of items. Your family can mix the pots up before you start to make it harder!
.
Game Three Below is an on line memory game that we have used in class….Can you hold all of the images in you mind?
https://www.mentalup.co/samples/game/game2?referrer=blog-visual-memory-test-online
Enjoy the games and remember to try the physical challenges from Monday, if you have not tried these yet or do join the older children who every morning at 9 am are keeping fit together following PE with Joe .
