Year 3 and 4 computing sessions

Years 3 and 4 shared a computer session for an afternoon where the year 4 children showed year 3 skills they would need in KS2. The year 3 children soon picked up the skills and surprised the year 4 children with their confidence.

Paper challenges

Year 4 were set two paper challenges in their first weeks.

Their first challenge involved folding a piece of A4 paper into a circle. Many children used different methods to create their circles, their perseverance was amazing.

The following day the children were split into groups, given 3 sheets of A4 paper, two pairs of scissors and a glue stick and asked to make the longest paper chain they could. The classroom was filled with laughter and then fierce competition kicked in. The longest chain measured 6m 23cms!

Olympic Event at Newton Abbot College

Year 4 attended an Olympic Event at Newton Abbot College on Friday 23rd June. The children took part in various workshops in Gymnastics, Football, Hockey and Athletics to name a few of the sports with different year 4 classes from across Newton Abbot. Louie, Tyler and Kailum were celebrated in an award ceremony at the end of the day for their amazing perseverance and enthusiasm.

National Writing Day

The children in Years 1 and 4 came together to celebrate  characters. The children began to think about characters from their favourite books and what traits they have. The two classes began to outline their character’s features and to draw them. They then added details of their character’s place in a story, some speech and most importantly colour!

The children then began to share their work with both classes.

Colour Mixing Workshop

Year 4 enjoyed a morning with Cara who visited and treated the children to a Helen Foundation supported workshop facilitated by Daisi. The children learned how to mix colours and the effects these colours can have. The class then used their work on Fairy Tales to explore an image from ‘The Little Mermaid’. This allowed the children to understand how to express the sea using different colours and effects.
