We have been lucky to borrow some dental resources from Devon Dental services for a week. We learnt a lot about how to care for our teeth.
Role Play and keeping healthy.
Charlie's block play; where he created a sequence of washing clothes making a washing machine, a tumble dryer and a washing line, inspired us to to explore why and how we keep ourselves clean and to add resources from the real world to develop our imaginary role play....
Exploring malleable materials as part of our early handwriting!
In the nursery we are loving exploring different materials like dough, foam, soap and paint. These fun activities help us develop arm, finger and hand strength which we will need when we begin to coordinate pens and pencils. [gallery order="DESC"...

Friday 5th June 2020
Hello, Bonjour, Hola
We spent a busy day working with the key worker children today! We all felt a lot chillier when went outside to play and we noticed the wind blowing a lot. Some children enjoyed going on a mini creature hunt and we managed to find all the creatures on our list apart from a lady bird and a worm! Some great spiders were made! Did you try to make a mini beast creature at home? Were you able to find a lady bird we thought it might have been too cold today?
We also made paper aeroplanes, designed them, decorated them and then had a competition.
We voted on which design we liked, how the plane flew through the air, how it landed and we measured the distance. It was fun and we even made some trophy’s to give out. Maybe you could do this at home and have a competition with your family!
Points awarded:
10 points for the plane spinning or looping in the air
3 points for the plane that landed the right way up
2 points for a plane landing on it’s side, nose or back
and we measured the distance it flew with a measuring tape. (you could use your feet to do this)
Count up the points for each person playing this game
award your home made medals or prizes!

Folding paper planes and adding a paper clip on the front…

We have realised how important it has been for you all to take part in a cooking activity. So this weekend why not try to make some cakes at home for tea. You can choose the recipe with your mum’s form a cookery book or perhaps buy a box mixture to make at home. Your challenge is to do as many of the skills by yourself! grown ups please support your child by allowing them to put the ingredients into the bowl including cracking the egg~ the delight on children’s faces when they achieve this is lovely to watch! Support them to follow the instructions on the packet mix or from a recipe book.
- Follow the instructions
- Find a recipe in a cooking book
- Pouring all by myself
- mixing all by myself
- cracking an egg all by my self
- Spooning the mixture all by myself
The skills needed to cook cakes require children to think about hygiene: washing hands, they use their muscle control for big hard mixing movements and for much finer spooning movements. They use maths skills and techonology skills to weigh out the ingredients and they can decorate their cakes creatively; the whole process develops focus and concentration to complete the task in hand. Don’t forget washing up and drying up the equipment used can be both fun and a muscle building controlled exercise. (all of these skills will help your child with their handwriting eventually!) Of course eating your cakes is a fun and often a social time.
Just a little reminder for coming into school next week.

Your child will need wellie boots.
You can bring them in and take them home each time as we will always play outside!
Please remember that your child has grown during their time at home so any boots they may have at school may not be their correct size!
On hot and sunny days please provide a hat and apply sun cream in the morning before coming into school.
Our story today is called “Honey Biscuits” enjoy! This story has a recipe you might like to try.
Mrs heap, Mrs Coleman and myself have had a lovely week seeing, chatting and playing with some of you and we are looking forward to more fun next week. We have loved hearing from others of you who are at home through so please all keep sending us photos of the super activities you have been sharing with your families.
We hope you enjoy this weekend

I had a lovely conversation with a parent today about shaking foam finger work.. WE LAUGHED together about the mess it can make at home!.. so I thought about other activities that develop finger strength and handwriting without a pen and paper!!! I wonder if any of your children would consider making a fruit crumble handwriting work!!!
Click here Making a Fruit Crumble info. Making fruit crumble involves lots of fine motor control skill such as chopping and rubbing. Have fun if you wish to make a crumble.
I have added a new story today and it was a brand new story for me. I like finding stories which have been read by the author. Enjoy

Tuesday 2nd June Lines and Circles
Hello Everyone Good Morning its Tuesday, we had another HOT day on Monday! I wonder if you explored water fun in the heat?

Fun swinging in Forest School

Paint mixing became a strong focus using BIG pieces of paper!

In the afternoon we made our chocolate chip cup cakes … A Busy Monday in school.
Then I opened up my email and You’ve had a BUSY few days at home…
Thank you again for sharing your wonderful learning .
- Cooking continues to be fabulous fun
- Lego building and look at the amazing balance in this structure.
- Look at this AMAZING 5yr old Birthday Cake … STUNNING

WOW such busy active learning…filled with spirals and water fun!!!
Today’s challenge links to a photo I was sent and today’s learning at school.
If you had a circle – or a paper plate what would you create….. The list of ideas are endless…but What will you choose to make?
![]()
Does your child create lines… Its a form of thinking known as a ‘schema’ lines are often considered a very mathematical exploration… There are lots of different schema’s.
What items does your child choose to independently line up… Where do they line up their item? On the window sills, across the floor, on the edge of tables? Its all really interesting and a deep form of thinking, this is why if items are moved from a line they have made they can become upset… its hard thinking they are doing, making these lines.
I wonder if your pets like to have a wash!
Keep Enjoying your active learning and Keep Smiling Miss Butler
Tuesday 2nd June 2020

It was lovely to open some more photos of your holiday fun! Here are some from Thomas for you to look at. Have you been to the same place ever?

- On the beach
- So quiet and still watching the ducks
Your challenge today is to enjoy some water play in your garden or outdoor space:
Water painting: you can use paint brushes, rollers and even old tooth brushes to paint with. This fun activity will allow your arms to strengthen, you can do really long strokes or fine and small strokes. Will your marks disappear in the sunshine?
Can you travel holding a cup of water without spilling it from one end of your garden to the other? Try different sized containers can you do it on your head? Can you place some obstacles in your pathway to negotiate? Collect the water in a bucket so you can reuse it. Have a race with a family member!!

Local women carrying buckets on their heads, Malawi, Africa
Try using wet sponges and and throw them into different sized bowls or buckets add a number to each bowl or bucket who gets the biggest score!

Perhaps you would like a bowl of soapy water so you can wash your toys or even wash your big wheeled toys like bikes and scooters like a real car wash!
Today’s story is about is about The Rainbow Fish. Did you like the end of the story? Was this the right thing for the Rainbow Fish to do? Yesterday we saw the jelly fish that Alfie created can you create your own creature who lives in the sea? If you do take a photo to show us
Take care and have fun
