Sherborne Development with our Foundation Stage children
Relationship Building
Sherborne Development Movement sessions this term have focused on ‘Relationship Building’ The physical games involved trust building, inner strength, ‘with relationship’ work as they work in partners.

Ian Patchett Impact Day
“It was great to see all of the students engaging in a range of different sporting activities. During the festivals, we broke the skills into simple activities where the students were able to focus on the specific skill that they were working. The students did a great job, and clearly have developed a range of core techniques that are needed for all ball sports such as throwing, catching and shooting. I am looking forwards to going back to the school and seeing how this gets developed into some small sided invasion activities” Ian Patchett.
West End In Schools – Diwali Dance Workshop
This half term, the school worked with West End in Schools. All the children from foundation stage to year 6 participated in a Ramayana Diwali dance workshop. Diwali is embraced by a number of religions and teaches the children about the idea of self-improvement. By retelling the famous story through dance, the children improve their cultural understanding and confidence in self-expression.
Year 3 and 4 Sports Day!
Wow! What an amazing afternoon we all had yesterday. The sun was shinning and we had great fun taking part in different events. The children participated in javelin throwing, relay race, shot put, standing long jump, sack race and the egg and spoon race.
Although it was a shame families could not join us, you would have been very proud of your child. They showed great sportsmanship and respect for each other when completing the races. Thank you for your support in making sure your child Sports Day was a success!
I am sure you are all keen to know the results….drum roll please…
1st – China (Red Team)
2nd – Brazil (Green Team)
3rd – Italy and Australia (Blue and Yellow Team)
Elijah received the ‘Respect’ trophy for his support towards other children, during the events.
Orienteering with Mr. Patchett
Year 3 took part in an afternoon of orienteering on the school field with Mr. Patchett. The children worked in pairs equipped with a map and a score card and raced to find all the letters hidden around the field. The children quickly discovered they needed to read the map to win, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Life Education
On Tuesday 29th July, Helen from Life Education visited our school to talk to us about health, drugs and emotional wellbeing. Unfortunately, we were unable to have the lesson in the Life Education bus however we still really enjoyed having Harold back to visit us. We learnt about the different systems in our body and what effect certain foods, drugs and alcohol can have on us. We also spent time exploring why it is such a good to be unique!
The circus came to Haytor View!
On Thursday Lucas and Johnny came to our school to teach us circus skills. We learnt how to use diablos, flower sticks and juggling balls. They amazed us with a fantastic show. The unicycle was really high and we got a chance to take part!
“Lucas and Johnny were really impressive”
“I enjoyed learning how to do flower sticks”
“I learnt how to balance a peacock feather on my chin”
“I enjoyed learning how to spin plates”
“It was great watching them juggle”
“I enjoyed being part of their act on Johnny’s shoulders!”
“I learnt to keep trying and sometimes it can take years to achieve what you want!”
