Something new to do or explore
Handwriting
I would like you to focus on handwriting over the next while. Please find the link below for Part 2.
Discovery Education
I hope you have all logged onto Discovery Education. If not and you are having difficulties, please email the school and the message will be passed on to me. I will get back to you with a solution as soon as I can.
On the front of the learning pack you received, there was a username and password for a resource called ‘Discovery Education’. On Discovery Education you will find lots of different resources to support your child’s learning. Check out the section ‘Espresso’ – ‘KS2’.
I hope you have been able to log into Discovery Education. Today, I would like you to do the following activity.
Maths
Once in the section KS2, please go to ‘Maths – ‘Addition and Subtraction Lower’ – ‘Activities’.
Once in activities you will find lots of different activities you can look through and do. Choose ones that are suitable for you. Explore and have fun.
Things to continue with
Top Marks
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train
If you click on one of the four operations (+ – X ÷), it will bring you to a screen with lots of different activities. You can then choose for yourself the level of challenge you wish to have.
Mental Maths Train is a maths game which focuses on the essential vocabulary of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It can help children to understand what type of calculation they have to do when faced with word problems.
It is a multiple choice game that is suitable for children from 5 to 11 years of age. Mental Maths Train is also good for consolidation of times tables knowledge.
For the best experience press the full-screen icon in the top right corner of the game. As with all of our games, Mental Maths Train is tablet friendly and it works well on an interactive whiteboard.
Times Tables
Keep learning your times tables. All the hard work is paying off!!! (https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/)
Science
The next area of science we will be looking at is light and shadow.
The link provided will allow you to find a set of questions to base some research around. This can be done as an online activity or by setting up a real world experience. What shadows do you see in and around your home? Can you draw them or take pictures of them?
Bug Club
Keep going with Bug Club. I have updated everyone’s Bug Club account. Your login details are in the front of your home and school contact books on page, Wc 30th September 2019. I will be allocating activities on Bug Club for you to complete over the next while.
Have a great day.

Thursday 16th April Jumping and Hopping Skills
GOOD MORNING!
I hope you are all FULL of energy today!
Yesterday at our team meeting Miss Lofthouse wondered if we could set a Physical Challenge for all of the FS children on their daily walk….. So today I am setting a physical challenge which you could explore inside or outside during your one form of exercise a day.
What you will need for the challenge inside is a roll of masking tape or DIY tape.
Place a LONG strip of masking tape onto the floor and you are ready!!
How many different ways can you move along this line?
- Hop
- Jump with feet together
- walk toe to heel
- wiggle on you tummy
- walk backwards
- How many different ways can you think of to travel along the line?
- Can you think of more than 10?
- I wonder if you can use these different moves alongside your favourite song ?…You might start to dance along the line!
How many different ways of moving can you use on your daily walk?
- Skip
- Jump
- galloping
- walking sideways
- Jump then Hop
- Walking on tip toes
- How many more way of moving can you use on you daily walk?

What’s Up On Wednesday?
Good Afternoon Year 1s! (I miss saying this)
Just to let you know, Bug Club has been updated with phonics games and a new book for this week. Another new game will be arriving on Thursday. Keep an eye out for our comments!
Miss Hall’s Gardening
As promised, here are the plants I have been growing. Harry and I have been taking it in turns to water them and making sure they get lots of sunlight.
Basil
Cherry tomatoes
Aubergine
How are your green beans growing? Have you planted your seed yet? Have a go at using a ruler to measure how tall they are getting.
Miss Hall’s Rescue Mission!
This morning we had some tiny visitors in the garden… three baby voles! Our garden is not the best habitat for these voles so we needed to find them a new home. Harry wasn’t working at the hospital today so he helped me to take the voles to the woods near our home. They seemed much happier in their new home!
Have you helped anyone this week? What did you do? I would love to hear about it.
I hope you are all safe and enjoying yourselves.
Best wishes
Miss Hall 🙂
Thursday April 16th
Hello all.
It was great to receive a load of photos from various people today. It looks like you are having some amazing times together.
A few people have said how much they enjoyed talking through and completing the Maths problem booklet together. Yes, it is really easy! But that’s because you have read the problem carefully and have the maths skills to solve it! Maths is easy as it always follows the same rules- its spelling that can be hard but as long as you are using your phonemes to create the graphemes you want in your word you are doing well. Knowing how to spell individual words comes with practice and lots of reading.
I am putting another one on below for anyone who wants to have a go. Let me know how you get on.
MAKING CONTACT WITH SCHOOL
In the event that you wish to use email to make contact with the school in the event of a query, please can you do so either using the website splash page, school gateway or sending an email to admin@haytorview.devon.sch.uk. Due to GDPR, any messages sent to individual teacher email accounts will be automatically deleted and are therefore unread.
The telephones aren’t staffed full time at this moment, however if you contact the school by telephone and leave a message 01626 203040, a member of school staff will return your call.
Wednesday 15th April
Hello All
It is a bit chilly today but the sun is shining which always makes me smile! 🙂
Make a den at home! Have fun creating a den! Can you rise to the challenge to create a den from things you have around the house like sheets and pegs and how many of your family members can fit in your den? (see the Home Learning page Foundation stage base 1)
Are you managing a daily walk? Perhaps when you are on your walk set your self and your family some challenges:
Can you run to the next lamp post?
Hop while you count to 20!
Skip along while you recite the alphabet song!
Jump over any cracks you can see in the path !
Walk around a tree forwards and then backwards!
Try out some of you own challenges and email me to let me know what you have have invented to do during your daily walk!
If you are staying inside try this challenge:
make a line with some masking tape or ribbon and think of how many ways you and your family can cross the tape using as many body movements as you can!
Take care and stay safe

Fun learning at home
It was lovely to see that Guy has made a super treasure box which he has proudly put in 10 golden coins! I wonder if he has found some more treasure over the Easter break!
Wednesday 15th
Good Morning!
As always, I hope you are all well and safe. I also hope you are all happy and making the most of this strange situation. In conversations I have had with parents prior to the holidays, I have been blown away by the amazing learning you are completing at home (making bird boxes, baking, planting, fixing electrics and so much more!). These activities are surely the best learning you can be doing right now – can you imagine the luxury of one oven per child to cook and bake at school?!
Onto the learning bits from me then – these are here for you if you want to complete them.
I’m hurting today from yesterday’s P.E. session with Joe, but think I may be getting a little better at some of the moves!

Maths
There are some tasks set for you on your Prodigy Maths Account – I have copies of your logins so please feel free to email if you have lost your login details and want to use this website.
Remember that you can look back at previous days to see other learning that I have suggested.
Literacy:
On the Wizardingworld.com please return to the Journey Through the History of Magic page (at the bottom of the home screen, under latest news). Read the Ten strange things you didn’t know about magic and summarise the 3 statements that you found the most interesting. When recording this, please write in full sentences and consider your handwriting. I would love to see photos of your summaries or receive these via email through the upload link on our website.
I wonder how many of us are in each Wizarding house? I know that Jack is proud of his house 🙂
Keep up the reading and recording your comments into your contact book. There are lots of free books uploaded to audible.com if you fancy listening to a story (yes, Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone is on there for free now!)
Most importantly – enjoy this time with your families!
Miss Shopland
Wednesday 15th April Den Building
Good Morning, Thank you for all of the messages, questions and photos that I have already received, you have all been doing so much over the Easter Break. It is so important to be happy and enjoy what you are doing.
I got home after work yesterday and started baking, smiling to myself as I had messages from family who were also baking! I had also been talking to many families across Monday afternoon who have all been baking together at home over Easter. What have you enjoyed cooking or baking together? I would love to see photos…..before you eat everything! It also made me smile as families mentioned about your love of licking out the bowls….THE BEST BIT!!! I will try to share images and simple recipes across the week.
Today’s challenge, which you might want to try…… Can you create a den, fort or cave using everyday items?
- pegs
- sheets / blankets
- chairs or table
- indoor clothes drier
- cushions
- Tape and paper for the sign. What will your den or fort be called?
I wonder….??? Will you build a den just for yourself or one which you can will fit all of your family inside? What would you want to put inside your den?
I created dens with my youngest nephew over the Easter Break…these were via video links!! I must say virtual dens are harder to make but also GREAT fun!! At one point we were all hiding in dens!! It was very funny…. Enjoy having fun today and let me see what you manage to create. Each one will be completely different… which is perfect.
Best wishes and Keep Safe and continue to SMILE. Miss Butler
