Wednesday 22nd April Spring Hunts and Flowers
GOOD MORNING Happy Wednesday
What a LOVELY afternoon I had yesterday as I was able to hear some more of your voices again. I will continue to phone families to say HELLO over the next few weeks so that we can keep in touch. However, if you have any questions or wish to share your child’s play we are here and ever so happy to receive messages and photos regularly. We will email your child back so that we can continue to keep in touch and have an awareness of their interests.
I was sent some lovely photos of your bug hotels and stick homes….. Have a look.… Remember every bug hotel, house or tower will be different. You might also like to build one with your brothers or sisters.

Last week Miss Lofthouse set an outside scavenger hunt challenge. Her new hunt is like a rainbow…You can complete this hunt inside or outside..

I heard yesterday that some of you are concentrating for LONG periods of time when playing with playdough…Playdough is brilliant in helping you become very creative and in strengthening your fingers. Well Done, Great Learning.

All you need to press flowers is 2 pieces of kitchen paper and a heavy book. Have you ever pressed a daisy or buttercup? What do you think will happen?

- What is a meteor? Ask someone in your family and research to decide on a definition.

- What sound do you think a meteor might make? What could you use to make that sound? Create your own instrument to make the sound of a meteor.
- Maths. Measuring mass Complete the sheet and have a go at making your own scales. These are some scales that I’ve made using a cup and a ruler. What will you use?
I wonder if the glue is heavier or the scissors…
- Bug Club. Read your new book and have a go at the phonics lesson and activities.

Hello everyone
As I type it is a beautiful sunny morning so it seems that you are set for some lovely fun in your outside spaces today! I wonder if yesterday you were able to try out the Natural History Museum link to getting worms to the surface and if you did how many worms came up? If not, take a look at this today and have a try~ please send me some photos of you trying this!
Miss Butler has posted 2 new worm related activities on the Base1 foundation stage post. The first is a link to You Tube telling of the story “Superworm” which I am sure some of you will know but it is worth listening to again; if you have this book you can read along with the video. The second activity looks really fun as you can make your own jelly worms!!
I would like to remind you of the song we sometimes sing at school “there’s a worm at the bottom of my garden” several versions of this can be found on You Tube I liked the Mr Tumble version! Take a look and sing along!I wonder if you can find out something interesting about worms?
What do they like to eat? What do they not like to eat?
From my phone calls I know many of you are still trying to remember all your phonic sounds and tricky words which is great! Why not set a challenge that you are timed as you say the sounds and or the tricky words using a digital timer: most phones have a stopwatch timer on them! Can you get faster? This will mean the number will get less!

You might not have as many straws as they demonstrate because of the plastic waste but you might have a couple somewhere in your house. If your can’t make worms, what other ice cube trays do you have at home so you could try making different jelly shapes?
Twig tower block
Today’s Den and Bug Challenge.… On your walk today or from what you can find in your garden, gather some sticks and find an undisturbed, sheltered spot outdoors. Pile up the stick and stuff the gaps with smaller twigs and dry leaves. You will be building a home for ladybirds and woodlice who will love to crawl into the crevices and hide among the leaves.

If you have time and would like to draw a HAPPY picture for your windows to cheer up people on their daily walk, please do send a photo to us. We would like to use these HAPPY pictures to say Happy 100th Birthday to Captain Tom. He has walked 100 lengths of his garden for NHS Charities and our fantastic NHS workers. He is still continuing to walk.. I will print and post all of the HAPPY drawings I receive as one large card from us all at the end of the week.

Hello all.
I hope you had a great day today and did loads of enjoyable things together. Thank you to everyone who sent in bits and pieces sharing what you are doing.
For those of you who are accessing this website regularly and using it to inform your daily activities, here is another music activity. Hopefully, yesterday you shared the music you all like, today it is about maybe finding something new together!
On this sheet, Music sheet Tuesday 21st April.docx there are a whole load of different types (or genres) of music. Have a listen to some of them on the internet radio stations and see which you enjoy. Talk about how they make you feel and what it is about the music that makes you feel that way. Who knows, you may discover something wonderful!

My Weekend News
I thought I would share something that will hopefully make you smile…
This weekend I took my bike out to Plymbridge Woods near my home. As I was cycling I noticed something in the path… It was a big, black and white, hairy creature that was making a strange sound. Can you guess what it could be? It was a cow! The cow decided to stand in the middle of the path which meant that I had to carefully walk my bike around it as I didn’t want to scare the cow. As I went on a bit further, I was met by more hairy creatures! However, these animals were smaller and white. They had hooves, like the cow, but the sound that they made was very different. You guessed it, it was a herd of sheep. This time I was able to slowly cycle my way around the sheep and made my way home back through the woods.
What would you do if you saw some animals blocking your path? I wonder if you could create a story about animals blocking your path…

Week beginning 20th April – Musical Madness!
Morning all! Hope you are all well?
Bit of a change in plan for the activities this week: The whole week’s activities will appear here today and they all share the same theme – music. Don’t worry, there is enough scope for you to continue to explore and bring your own tastes to the learning and to follow your own lines of inquiry. If you want to explore more than I have suggested, feel free – that’s what the internet is for. Go off and seek answers to your own questions and find a different angle to research… Other than these activities, don’t forget to keep reading and recording your reflections in your Reading & Contact book. For maths, keep playing Prodigy! It’s great fun and you should be able to boss all of the questions they ask you to answer – we’ve covered them all in class.
Monday 20th April – Today it’s all about finding out about the structure of music. Use the BBC Bitesize website and explore all of the different options on the main page here:

Tuesday 21st April – Again today, we are finding out about the technical side of music. Use your Espresso login and explore the Key Stage Two music pages. Have fun!
Wednesday 22nd April – Today we are going to explore different forms (genres) of music and give our opinion about them. I would like you to use the internet and your parents’/carers’ music collection and have a listen to some different kinds of music. What do you like? What do your parents/carers like? Ask them! Explore the following genres for starters and build a page (in Word or on paper or some other means) to record what you think. Maybe you could build a fact file for each musical genre – when it started, where it originated, famous artists, which instruments it uses, what you think of it, and so on. Start with these styles: blues, rap, rock, classical, soul, country & western, world music, gospel, reggae and dance. There’s ten to get you going! Involve your family and ask them to share with you what they like. Good luck and enjoy!
Thursday 23rd April – Now it’s time to focus. You explored lots of different musical styles yesterday but which was your favourite? Today is your chance to explore what you like. Maybe you want to explore a particular genre of music or maybe you want to specialise even further than that and focus on a particular artist. You choose! Choose what you want to focus on then design a poster, telling your reader (explanation) all about that musical style or artist. Include lots of detail and be an expert – you will need to include dates, facts & figures, precise information and pictures to make sure you keep your audience informed and entertained. I can’t wait to do this one – I’m sure you will enjoy it too!
Friday 24th April. Now it’s time to create our own music. You know what you like and you appreciate other musical genres so let’s use that and make our own. Here’s three websites to explore and try some different techniques out:

BeepBox is an online tool for sketching and sharing instrumental melodies. It gives you the option to choose from lots of different instruments and layer them onto the arrangement page to play simultaneously and make a tune. It’s great fun again!
Through the App store – Song Maker is a free app that allows you to take samples of instruments and put them together to create your own song. On this app, you can also record your own sound effects to add.

Week Beginning 20th April – Musical Madness!
I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. After a wet and rainy end to last week, it looks like we are back to bright sunny days, which is great.
We have a bit of a change of approach towards supporting children’s learning over the next few weeks. The week’s learning is going to have an overall theme and all activities will be linked to that theme. We hope this keeps things interesting.
This week’s theme is music as the title suggests. We will be listening, researching, singing and chatting about different types of music over the course of the week.

We would like to you investigate and experience different styles of music. The musical styles we have come up with are country and western, reggae, classical, blues, soul, dance, rock, gospel. These are only a suggestion however we know there are many more.
Thursday:
On Thursday, we would like you to do some research on your favourite band or singer and then produce a poster to show what you have discovered.

Friday:
Today we would like you to have a go at making your own music using all the skills you have discovered this week. These activities will offer you a chance to explore and have some fun creating your own music in whatever musical style you wish.

If you type ‘incredibox’ into google it will come up straight away.
This is available online or to download as an app. This works by dragging and dropping different beat samples to the characters on screen to play. You can start and stop the sample by clicking on the character.
I liked how easy it was to record and save the tune that I made (click on the three lines to select record, save it by giving it a name when prompted to and then enter your/your parent’s email address and it will send directly to the inbox.)
Other Things to Try:
Teach your parents the chorus of your favourite song.
Learn the chorus of your parent’s favourite song.
Find and decide as a family, on your favourite lockdown song and dance.
Have a go at Youtube Karaoke with your family.
