Time to Think!

Over the past couple of weeks, we have welcomed back our parents into the classroom for Time to Think.  This has been an exciting and enjoyable time for us.  Our parents have got stuck into the Time to Think activities with their child…

“I like my mum being here with me.  I can show her my work.”

“It’s been fantastic! I am glad to be back in the classroom.  It has been very well organised with different parents coming in each day.  It is nice to be back in the classroom to see all the work and pictures on the wall.”

“I like daddy being in the classroom as we have time together.  Daddy likes being in the classroom, seeing the environment.”

“I enjoy showing my mum my work.  I like spending time with her by myself.”

“We are having fun together.  I enjoying seeing my child settling in and being in the class again.”

“It’s really nice to see what the kids have been doing.  It is great to see what they have been learning about.”

Buckland Walk

Over the past few weeks, our geography learning has been focusing on maps.  We had been exploring Newton Abbot and where we live.  As part of our geography learning, we produced our own ordnance survey map of Buckland.  We walked around Buckland estate and noted down key information that will helped us to create these.  We all really enjoyed our walk and spotted things which were new to us!

JJ’s Arts Academy

JJ’s Art Academy in Newton Abbot, visited us at Haytor View and gave an assembly to remember!  They introduced us to the drums, bass guitar and electric guitar.  We learnt about each instrument and enjoyed listening to the different sounds they made.  At the end of the assembly, they played a song which we all got up and danced.  We had such fun making lots of noise and singing along.

“They were really good playing the instruments.”

“I thought it was special.”

“I think they were really good and I loved the instruments.”

“My favourite instrument was the bass guitar.”

“I enjoyed the band.”

Year 4’s Cracking Contraptions

This week, Year 4 has had lots of fun designing our own inventions.   We have talked about some of the great inventions we have and how they have changed our world.  Then we worked in groups to come up with our own invention and decide how it would work, how it would change our lives and then drew diagrams to show this.  Next, we presented our inventions to the rest of the class.

Some of our amazing inventions were;  The Worry Monster Machine: to help us with our worries,  The Snack and Drink Dispenser for more choice at breaktime and The Squeaky Clean Machine: to clean our homes.   Which one would you choose?

First Week Back!

What a fantastic week we have had in year 4!

We have been taking part in lots of different activities and team games.  We have enjoyed getting to know one another and building relationships in our class.  We have all learnt something new about each other and looking forward to continuing with this next week.

Ancient Egypt Summer Term 2

This half term we have been learning about Ancient Egypt.

We have enjoyed finding out about the country, the way the people lived, mummification, Pharaohs, making Canopic jars and lots more!

Year 3 and 4 Sports Day!

Wow! What an amazing afternoon we all had yesterday.  The sun was shinning and we had great fun taking part in different events.  The children participated in javelin throwing, relay race, shot put, standing long jump, sack race and the egg and spoon race.

Although it was a shame families could not join us, you would have been very proud of your child.  They showed great sportsmanship and respect for each other when completing the races.  Thank you for your support in making sure your child Sports Day was a success!

I am sure you are all keen to know the results….drum roll please…

1st – China (Red Team)

2nd – Brazil (Green Team)

3rd – Italy and Australia (Blue and Yellow Team)

Elijah received the ‘Respect’ trophy for his support towards other children, during the events.

Year 4 using Prodigy

As a treat for working so hard on their weather reports in IT, year 4 were given time to play on Prodigy and improve their maths. The class loved using the new laptops to brush up their skills and create their new characters in the game.

Life Education

On Tuesday 29th July, Helen from Life Education visited our school to talk to us about health, drugs and emotional wellbeing.  Unfortunately, we were unable to have the lesson in the Life Education bus however we still really enjoyed having Harold back to visit us.   We learnt about the different systems in our body and what effect certain foods, drugs and alcohol can have on us.  We also spent time exploring why it is such a good to be unique!
