Virtual Reality

Today we were given an incredible experience by Musemio who took us to the virtual word of Ancient Egypt. The children were able to try out VR headsets and explore pyramids whilst discovering facts about Ancient Egypt.

We Need Your Help!

Year 1 are looking for any gardening supplies you might have lying around to help us to renovate our outdoor area. If you have anything from compost and bulbs, to gloves and shovels that you no longer use and are happy to donate, we would really appreciate any contributions you can make.

Many thanks in advance!

We’ve had a ROARsome day!

The Year 1s have had an amazing day at Dinosaur World Toquay today. We have taken risks, made discoveries and had loads of fun!

The children have loved discovering fossils, finding out what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur and being brave putting their heads into the mouth of a T-rex. But, above all, the class decided that touching the dinosaur poo was their favourite part… Yuck!

We have learnt so much and enjoyed a rich experience discovering new facts and finding out about how some of the things they thought they knew are not true. We now know that we are taller than a Velociraptor, Pteradactyls are not real dinosaurs and that there were creatures that roamed the Earth before the dinosaurs. Wow!

Thank you to all of the adults and the children that made today so special.

Paleontologists of the Future!

This half term Year 1 have been learning about Mary Anning and her incredible life as a fossil hunter. As a part of our learning about fossils, we made our own salt dough fossils by mixing: 1 cup of flour, half a cup of salt and half a cup of water. We then moulded (a fantastic word shared by Bethany!) our dough into the shape of fossils before putting them in the oven to bake on a low heat for 3 hours.

We had some amazing creations from ammonites  to T-Rex bones!

Next we recreated a day in the life of Mary Anning and rediscovered our fossils outside on a ‘sandy beach’. Using the brushes to carefully remove the sand we shared some fantastic adjectives to describe how the fossils were, “rough”, “bumpy”, “strange”, “heavy”, “round”, “scratchy”.

We love our celebration assemblies!

Thursday mornings are such a special time for us.

We all walk up to the studio to spend time with our families and friends celebrating those fantastic things we have done that make our school and community so special. Blue certificates are awarded for thoughtfulness, Yellow for team work, Green for great learning and Pink for amazing vocabulary.

It is great that so many family and friends give us their time to come and celebrate with us as time is the most precious gift we can give. If someone gives us time, we know they really care a lot for us.

The children run the assembly all by themselves (which is pretty impressive for KS 1!)

If you haven’t enjoyed the experience of one of our assemblies yet, we’d love to see you at the next one.

Project Chrysalis Complete

Congratulations Year 1! Today we have completed our Chrysalis Art Project and the result is amazing. The children have worked incredibly hard over the past 4 weeks and have now created a canopy for the caravan using eco-friendly materials and stamps they have made.

Now the canopy has been sent off with Kate to be added to the eco-friendly caravan. We can’t wait to see how it looks!
