Wednesday 10th June Frozen Toy Break Out and Activity Challenge

Good Morning Active Learners… You are being so active and also keeping me up to date on the things that you are doing at home. THANK YOU, I just love to see your learning. It makes me smile as a look at the fun you are having.  Remember you can use the up load button on this site or you can send images or just a message to me via the admin email address. admin@haytorview.devon.sch.uk

Look at this FANTASTIC design work . You all saw the first stages when it was being painted . The little building started off as a garage but then it changed into a little duck house complete with pond, a wall to sit on!  Building your own small world area is WONDERFUL learning.

Look at this threading,  completed with such concentration and fine finger control using a plastic needle and a needle made from folded masking tape.

The idea of making dinosaur fossils!! …gave me an another idea…!!

I wonder have you ever completed the Frozen toy break -out or HUNT?! You choose a container, put some small plastic toys in it, fill with water and freeze it. Once they are frozen, ask your child how could they release them from the ice?

I also wondered if the collections you are still finding on your walks could be captured and pressed in the salt dough?

Your photos also show me how PHYSICALLY active you are being every day.   Which is so important ..

Activity challenge: I wonder…
How many hop, skips, jumps, catches, balances or movements can you do
in a minute?  1 minute is a LONG TIME when you are hopping!!

New Story read by the Author .. I REALLY like to hear the Authors reading their own books...

Enjoy the story …he reads it  very well……….. and remember it is best to be yourself

Have a great day and remember to have fun and enjoy yourself,  from Miss Butler, Miss Lofthouse and Mrs Breakwell

Wednesday 9th June Salt Dough beads and designs

Hello Everyone

Monday ended up being such a sunny day after the morning showers. Thanks you for your birthday wishes and for sharing your lovely photos. I can see that again you have been engaged in a  wide range of Active Learning with your families. I’ve enjoyed seeing how you are sharing your learning with your brothers or sisters.

Your threading photos show great concentration

There was so many different ways to thread….. The hole punch picture shows that you can create your own items to thread ing holes…..BUT

Today I wonder if you could make your own beads….or other salt dough item?

Enjoy your day and Keep being safe and having fun..

Another Beautiful Photo was sent in today of a child just sat relaxing and enjoying the joy and beauty of the world.

Keep smiling and have a GOOD Tuesday.from  Miss Butler, Mrs Breakwell, Miss Lofthouse

Tuesday 9th June 2020

Hello everyone!

We hope that you all enjoyed yourself on Monday! Did you try any of the physical challenges? We did in the Key worker group! The children especially liked the tape on the floor activity and as the day went on the tape pattern changed from a ladder to a zig zag which kept on getting longer! The children were so clever to think of different ways to balance along the tape including walking backwards at which Mrs Penn failed!!

Talking with Miss Shopland and she found a sheet from “Action for Happiness” entitled:

Joyful June (even in difficult times)

Each day I will post the happy activity for the day. Tuesday 9th June:

Find the joy in music today sing play dance or just listen!

Listen to this piece of music it always makes me feel happy the images are beautiful too! What would your choice be?? I think you will make up a great dance!

Mrs Heap came up with a Smelling challenge : “know your nose!” for us to try in school! She put some different items into individual pots and asked each person to close their eyes to guess the smell! It was fun and quite tricky at times! She had smells of lemon, vinegar, curry spices, soap powder, talc, ginger, chocolate and so on. Try this challenge at home. See what things you can guess just from their smell alone! Test your family who has the best nose!

We have discovered that it is fun to add smells to play dough you can either add herbs to some old dough or make a new batch adding a smell to it!

Today’s story is of course a smelly one!! Enjoy!

We hope to see some of you today to do some cooking, gardening, painting and so much more!

Take care and have fun

Mrs Penn  Mrs Heap and Mrs Coleman

Monday 8th June Threading with a range of things!

Hi Good Morning Everybody.

I hope that you have all had a GREAT weekend. Sunday was a lovely and got warming across the day. I saw familiar faces on my walk! It was nice to see you out with your families.  I  also was very lucky, my family drove from across the country to see me for a day for the first time since the start of Feb. Only 5 of us could meet outside at distance but it was great to see them. They came to celebrate my birthday, which is today!! Its lovely to share time with families and I know two children wanted to do threading this week to send presents to family members they miss,  so I though we could all think of threading items we could find at home.

Do you remember the bubble liquid recipe and the lovely threaded bead wands…

I wondered if today you could find all the different things you could thread at home… Pasta, cheerios, buttons, beads…   Have fun searching for things at home to thread.  You can make your own needle from masking tape so it is easier to push the thread into the holes.

What about threading things you find outside?

Have fun searching and making holes… Do you have a hole punch so you can make your own things to thread?

This week in school we will be:

I will also be able to talk to some more of you this afternoon.. I can’t wait to say hello  and chat.

Enjoy your day and remember to have fun. From Miss Butler, Mrs Breakwell and Miss Lofthouse

Monday 8th June 2020

Hello All

We hope that you all enjoyed yourselves over the weekend. The weather was more mixed and a little chilly at times but the sun did find moments to shine which always brightens us up!

This week, like last week, allows you to come back into school to play with your friends in a small group and safe environment. It was so lovely to see most of you and we enjoyed watching you play and have fun creatively learning! This week we have a fun session planned for Tuesday and Wednesday. I hope you agree when you look at the following images:

Now, you need to keep having fun at home as well! We thought it might be fun to explore some physical activities developing your control over your large and small body movements. All the activities listed will provide an element of challenge, skill, precision and fun

Place some tape on your floor like a ladder:

Can you jump from tape to tape: 2 footed jump

Can you hop on one leg then the other from tape to tape

Can you do a giant step from tape to tape

Can you stand with one foot on one tape and how far can you stretch the other foot to another tape without falling over!

What happens if you arrange the tape as a zig zag or in a circle can you still manage all the above challenges is it harder or easier?

What about creating a laser beam walk through! You could make this part of a Ninja game!

These next activities require more precision!

Today when I (Mrs Penn) took my dog for a walk on the beach I kept noticing the different sizes of stones and pebbles. If you are able to find pebbles on your next walk to the woods or beach and bring them home you can have great fun turning them into little creatures!

The recent rain showers have been helping my seeds and small plants grow nicely! I can now see 4 baby courgettes and I have eaten some radishes home grown! (My big girl Annie said she did not like radishes but she tried a home grown one and said it was “okay!”) I can also see 3 sunflower plants growing taller! It is so exciting. Are your seeds growing if you planted some take some photos and send them so I can see!

Today’s story is about a little boy who helps his grand dad in the garden. It is called “Oliver’s Vegetables!” by Vivian French enjoy

We hope you all have a lovely fun packed Monday with some smiles a long the way

Friday 5th June Having fun with tubes

Good Morning Everyone

What a Wonderful day I had playing with the children that came to school and then reading and looking through photos of the wonderful adventures you are having at home. You all make me feel so totally proud to know you and your families . You are all so dedicated to support your children and I love the depth of engagement I see and hear on the phone or via email.. You all have just made my week so special,  so a HUGE Thank You from me,  Miss Butler.

I also know some of you are getting very brave and HOLDING more bugs even snails! Well done

Our fun Handwriting sessions have been a hit….

Today’s challenge links to scissor skills shown here and ideas created by the group when they saw all of the tubes we had collected.

I wonder what you could create using a kitchen roll tube or a wrapping paper tube?  The list is endless… BUT what will you make?

Today I was sent a photo that was stunning and shows a child in deep contemplation about the beautiful and excitement of our world… We all need times like these to just stand and look out at the sea and world….. and think.

I’ve added one of OUR favourite stories and the boy uses a tube like toy in the story…Do you remember what is is? Have fun recalling this story at home and can you recall the actions…look up, look down , look all around….

Have a lovely weekend and Enjoy Yourself

Friday 5th June 2020

Hello, Bonjour, Hola

We spent a busy day working with the key worker children today! We all felt a lot chillier when went outside to play and we noticed the wind blowing a lot. Some children enjoyed going on a mini creature hunt and we managed to find all the creatures on our list apart from a lady bird and a worm! Some great spiders were made! Did you try to make a mini beast creature at home? Were you able to find a lady bird we thought it might have been too cold today?

We also made paper aeroplanes, designed them, decorated them and then had a competition.

We voted on which design we liked, how the plane flew through the air, how it landed and we measured the distance. It was fun and we even made some trophy’s to give out. Maybe you could do this at home and have a competition with your family!

Points awarded:

10 points for the plane spinning or looping  in the air

3 points for the plane that landed the right way up

2 points for a plane landing on it’s side, nose or back

and we measured the distance it flew with a measuring tape. (you could use your feet to do this)

Count up the points for each person playing this game

award your home made medals or prizes!

Folding paper planes and adding a paper clip on the front…

We have realised how important it has been for you all to take part in a cooking activity. So this weekend why not try to make some cakes at home for tea. You can choose the recipe with your mum’s form a cookery book or perhaps buy a box mixture to make at home. Your challenge is to do as many of the skills by yourself! grown ups please support your child by allowing them to put the ingredients into the bowl including cracking the egg~ the delight on children’s faces when they achieve this is lovely to watch! Support them to follow the instructions on the packet mix or from a recipe book.

The skills needed to cook cakes require children to think about hygiene: washing hands, they use their muscle control for big hard mixing movements and for much finer spooning movements. They use maths skills and techonology skills to weigh out the ingredients  and they can decorate their cakes creatively; the whole process develops focus and concentration to complete the task in hand. Don’t forget washing up and drying up the equipment used can be both fun and a muscle building controlled exercise. (all of these skills will help your child with their handwriting eventually!) Of course eating your cakes is a fun and often a social time.

Just a little reminder for coming into school next week.

Your child will need wellie boots.

You can bring them in and take them home each time as we will always play outside!

Please remember that your child has grown during their time at home so any boots they may have at school may not be their correct size!

On hot and sunny days please provide a hat and apply sun cream in the morning before coming into school.

Our story today is called “Honey Biscuits” enjoy! This story has a recipe you might like to try.

Mrs heap, Mrs Coleman and myself have had a lovely week seeing, chatting and playing with some of you and we are looking forward to more fun next week. We have loved hearing from others of you who are at home through so please all keep sending us photos of the super activities you have been sharing with your families.

We hope you enjoy this weekend

Mrs Penn, Mrs Coleman and Mrs Heap

Thursday 4th June Is making Apple Crumble, handwriting work?

Hello Everyone

I hope that you had a great day in the rain! My garden will be delighted and I am so pleased I can have an evening off water all of my plants.

I have had some wonderful phone calls with families and children today. Its lovely to hear the exciting things you are doing at home. I will continue to phone everyone else on Friday,  I look forward to speaking to you all soon.

Tricky word games in the sunshine, What a lovely active idea.

I love the way that you can use paving for so many ideas:- reading words, identifying letters shapes, hopscotch, number lines …the list is endless!

I had a lovely conversation with a parent today about shaking foam finger work.. WE LAUGHED together about the mess it can make at home!.. so I thought about other activities that develop finger strength and handwriting without a pen and paper!!!  I wonder if any of your children would consider making a fruit crumble handwriting work!!!

Click here Making a Fruit Crumble info.  Making fruit crumble involves lots of fine motor control skill such as chopping and rubbing.  Have fun if you wish to make a crumble.

I have added a new story today and it was a brand new story for me.  I like finding stories which have been read by the author. Enjoy

Have a lovely Thursday and  I wonder what cooking activities you will explore together?  You will all have different recipes which are your family favourites. I look forward to finding out the range of cooking ideas you all LOVE.

Keep Smiling and Enjoy your Time Together Miss Butler, Miss Breakwell and Miss Lofthouse

Thursday 4th June 2020

Good morning all

I really enjoyed the fact that today has been cooler and a little bit rainy! We hope that you are all having a good time at home !

Another group of children joined us in school toady and we had a lovely time seeing each other and playing safely in and outside! I feel so proud how proud the children have all managed the new way we are working superbly! We even found some snails in the rain and Alfie and Lucas  were excited as the snail climbed up their arms! Here are some photos from today.

Today we enjoyed finding snails that came out in the rain at the end of the afternoon and I would like to remind you of the mini beast hunt sheet. Click on the blue writing to see the mini beast hunt sheet: My Garden Creatures hunt 2

Your challenge today is find your own way to make a mini creature!

Can you make a worm or snake from an old sock! What will use to stuff it? Can you decorate it you may be allowed to sew on some buttons or  just draw!

Could you make your own snail? Will you draw spiral shell? Can you curl paper to make a snail ? Could you use a sock and box? You can think of your own way to make one!

How could you create a spider and his web?

Will you paint it? Will you cut out a body and add 8 long legs?

Have a look at this short video it might give you an idea!

Don’t forget to send me a photo of the mini creature you choose to make!

Wednesday 3rd June Number fun, badges and scones with Ching Ching

Good Morning … Another HOT day … We had to use so much water to ensure that our plants had a good long drink.

Will it be another warm day tomorrow so you can explore water fun activities or will the weather change?

I‘ve linked today’s challenge to counting quantities…I wonder if you could play a  listen and Spray Counting Game – Write numbers on the ground with chalk and then ask your child listen for how many claps and then spray that number with water or because tomorrow might not be as warm! listen to how many claps and collect the correct quantity of your toys.

Even more fun is playing this game with grapes or chocolate buttons!

A second challenge links to designing your own badge …Look at this batgirl suit . She is wearing her own batman badge. What badge you make for yourself?

Have fun with these two challenges

.

I loving seeing your challenge picture…I love the excited faces… The cakes look very tasty. Well Done. Chocolate chip cakes have been a HUGE hit at school. Also the children loved finding out how to crack an egg on their own, it was a great interest.

Mrs Heap has added another new recipe  Ching Ching has explored. When you manage to find the ingredients you might enjoy following it together. We will be making scones in a weeks time at school.  The Scone Zone with Ching Ching (1) scone zone (2)scone zone (3) click the blue words here for the recipe. Enjoy and maybe you can have jam and cream on top!

Enjoy your Wednesday and Keep Safe and keep smiling  From Miss Butler, Miss Loft house and Mrs Breakwell
