It’s Thursday 26th March.
Hello everyone!
I hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine. Stay safe, wash your hands and keep your distances but don’t stop being happy.
Remember your R-Time skills when you are talking and listening to each other and keep practicing your handwriting!
I’ve added another Bug Club game for those who have finished the last one and I am watching your reading closely. I will give everyone who can read their book fluently and then completes the activities a new book. Hopefully, I will be able to leave a little message as well so look out for these.
Today is Roast day and Stay and Play, so why not keep a food diary today and record everything you eat and then dig out another game to play together. Do you know which foods you eat give you protein? Do you know what our bodies use protein for?
Look after yourselves and each other.
All the best
Iain F.
Thursday 26th March 2020
Good morning base 2,
We are now on day 4 of home learning and I hope all is going well. As I keep saying, please make sure you are taking regular breaks and are learning some new home skills to support the rest of your family.
Luca, James and I have been doing Joe Wicks – well James has, Luca runs around and my bump doesn’t seem to let me do half of the exercises but I do what I can. However, we are making the most of the nice weather and go into the garden for fresh air and to explore (Luca likes to watch the ants – he tries to eat them though!).
For today I would like you to complete the following:
English
Following on from yesterday’s learning of ‘Synonyms and Antonyms’, I would like you to complete the word web attached below. From the book you are reading you need to choose three words (try and choose some challenging words) and place them in the middle of each web. You then need to research synonyms of these words.
I would like you to then rewrite the sentence your chosen word has come from and try replacing it with a synonym. Repeat this twice for each web.
Discuss the following questions with your family at home:
*Does the sentence have the same effect on you?
*Does the word change the information to mean something else?
Maths – Please go onto:
Discovery Education > KS2 > Maths > Addition and Subtraction (lower) > Videos > Mental calculations: subtraction.
- Start by watching the video.
- Click on activities.
- Complete two of the subtraction activities depending on how comfortable you feel with it.
> Please continue with your reading.
> Please continue with your times table practise.
> Please continue with your Easter project.
> Don’t forget to see what Harold has been up to: https://www.coramlifeeducation.org.uk/harolds-daily-diary
Make sure you let me know how you are getting on or even upload some photos.
If you have any questions, please contact the school via their e-mail address and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Take care, Mrs Cousins.

It’s a wonderful Wednesday
Good morning!
Reporting from my garden this morning as the sun is out!
Have you been active this morning? This morning Harry and I worked together to do our own circuit training with different activities. Can you help us to find a new station to keep us active? I look forward to seeing your suggestions!
After the Easter we will be investigating sharks. Check out the National Marine Aquarium Live feed at https://www.aqua.org/Experience/live. Can you spot the Blacktip Reef Shark? Have a go at drawing the shark. Can you find out three facts about the Blacktip Reef Shark? Send me your facts and pictures through the website 🙂
After doing you phonics phoneme speedy reading today, why not create your own word hunt?
happy, sky, yak, butterfly, dry, funny, spotty, bunny, yellow, yesterday, yucky
All of these words have the letter y in but it can make different sounds. Read the words together then write down the words onto different pieces of paper. Take it in turns to hide the y words around your home. Time each other to see who can find and read all of the words in the quickest time!
Something new for you…

Wednesday 25th March
Good morning all,
I’d like to start by sharing my first thought of the day with you – I wonder how many others (of the 1.4 million people who took part) have woken up with slightly achy legs today following Joe Wicks’ P.E. lesson yesterday?!
Maths tasks for the day is more rounding decimals! Today I have put together some challenge questions for you to discuss with family members at home. Click on the word Maths the word document: Maths
Keep practising your times tables as much as possible, chalks in the garden are a brilliant way to practice, especially when the sun is out 🙂
For Literacy today, please write your own relative clauses about mythical beasts. Look back at the relative clause videos from the last two days to remind yourself of what a relative clause should include and where the punctuation is needed. If you have not yet started your mythical beast research, you could write a sentence about a Minotaur, a Griffin, a Fairy and a Merman. I have uploaded the 5/6 words list below, please include as many words as possible. Year-5-or-6-Spellings-Whole-Year-Tick-Box
I hope you are all finding time to read at home and record your comments into your contact book. It is important to make times in the day to do this – when you do it will need to fit with your family.
To support our next History topic, please log on to Discovery Education Espresso, go to KS2, History, Anglo Saxons, Factfiles. Here you can read the information about each area of Anglo-Saxon history. You could record your favourite fact from each fact file into your contact book.
I hope you have another fab day, I’ll be working out with you all (and Joe Wicks) again at 9 am.
Keep uploading your learning – everything I have received so far has been just brilliant.

Wednesday 25th March 2020
We’ve made it to Day 3.
I hope you have all enjoyed your first few days of home learning. I hope you have started to feel like you have begun to get a routine going.
Today in Mr Whitty’s household, as well doing our learning, we got out into the garden to explore a little bit. We came across squirrels, bees, daisies (made daisy chains – love making daisy chains!), snowdrops and oak leaves which had fallen to the ground over winter. We even found an old bench at the very bottom of the garden buried behind a pile of old shrubs and bushes. Bethany (you all remember Bethany I hope!) and I are going to fix it up by sanding it down and getting it ready to paint.
I will upload pictures as soon as I can so you can see how our project is progressing.
Something new to do or explore
Is there anything in your garden or home that you could repair, recycle or upcycle (with an adult) as part of an ongoing project? If so, I would love to hear or learn about it (don’t forget to upload pictures too).
Discovery Education
I hope you have all logged onto Discovery Education, If not and you are having difficulties, please email the school and the message will be passed on to me and I will get back to you with a solution.
On the front of the learning packs received towards the end of the week, there was a username and password for a resource called ‘Discovery Education’. On Discover Education you will find lots of different resources to support your child’s learning. Check out the section ‘Espresso’ – ‘KS2’.
I hope you have been able to log into Discovery Education. Today, I would like you to do the following activity.
Once in the section KS2, please go to ‘Maths’ – ‘Addition and Subtraction (lower)’ – Videos – Mental Calculations: Addition – Watch the video and have a go at the activities afterwards.
Have fun learning and happy exploring….
Things to continue with
Handwriting/Spelling
I have uploaded some handwriting/spelling resources. It includes the Year 3 and 4 statutory spelling list, along with another list of words we use every day called High Frequency Words or HFW spelling list. You do not have to use the spelling and the handwriting resources together but it works well using both together. The best thing to do is to only choose about 5 or 6 spellings at any one time and focus on those until they are learned rather than trying to learn too many at once.
Times Tables
Keep learning your times table. All the hard work is paying off!!! (https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/)
Bug Club
Keep going with Bug Club. I have updated everyone’s Bug Club account. Your login details are in the front of your home and school contact books on page, Wc 30th September 2019. I will be allocating activities on Bug Club for you to complete over the next while.
PE/Dancing
If you are following Joe Wicks – Well done – We did it as a family today and my goodness we were so tired by the end. We were doing it on catch up as we could not do it at 9am. So, if you miss the one at 9am, Joe saves the session to his Youtube channel so it can be accessed anytime.
Dancing with Oti Mabuse is live on her Facebook page where you can learn a dance routine. This goes live at 11.30am each day.
Topic
Continue with your Easter Topic learning. This is a project type task and it should take time to complete. Please see the previous post – Easter Home Learning for more details. To see the progress your project is making, you can create a photographic diary if you take pictures of the different stages of your learning. This would be something I would love to see uploaded to the website for me to see.
You are an inspiration to me and to each other. Well done each and every one of you and thank you for keeping in touch via the website. It looks great. I look forward to receiving more from you over the next few days. Any questions, please write in and I will get back to you soon as possible.
Take care and be safe,
Mr Whitty
The Pirate Song for both F1 and F2 Children
Wednesday 25th March
Thank you for sending me your creative loose parts pictures. I look forward to being sent other photos across the week of your white board writing, creative pictures or number bonds explorations and play! Click here to download the:.Creative Thinking explanation from Monday 23rd. These home activities are for both Nursery and Reception children.
I have uploaded two photos from today’s home learning onto the schools main website . Have a look under the Foundation Stage pages on the main website.
I am sure that you remember the You Tube clip image above that we used in our singing and rhyming sessions across the last week of term . Enjoy this song and dance at home with your family. See if you can remember the rhyming words within the song.
Please try to access Bug Club everyday with your child. Please focus on one book in detail and keep repeating this same book across a few days until your child is able to read the sentences fluently. However, your child can play numerous phonics games that have been added onto their individual Bug Club page.
Do let me know if you have problem accessing the Bug Club site.
F1 Families :- If your Nursery child would like access to Bug Club which will allow them to look at books on line, please do let me know. The first books have no words and the children just have to create their own stories using their language knowledge.

Home Learning using Loose Parts
Tuesday March 24th 2020
A house was created after searching in his house for items!
A rainbow, rainbow circle and a bunny bookmark.
Thank you for sending in photos of your child’s learning.
Remember there aren’t any rules about what you can and can’t use when using loose parts and it is good to keep adding new materials and mixing things up. The same materials can be used in so many different ways by combining them with various other materials to produce different results each time.
Remember you don’t need to use glue and the items can be saved and used again.
