Something new to do or explore

I would like you to focus on handwriting over the next while. Please find the link below for Part 1.
Book-1—The-Anticlockwise-Letters
Times Tables
Please see below for some fun times tables activities. You can choose which one you would like to do according to where you are in your times tables learning. You should be able to remember which times table you were on before we broke up for Easter.

3 4 and 8 Times Table Game Instructions
Keep learning your times tables. All the hard work is paying off!!! (https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/)
Discovery Education
I hope you have all logged onto Discovery Education. If not and you are having difficulties, please email the school and the message will be passed on to me. I will get back to you with a solution as soon as I can.
On the front of the learning pack you received, there was a username and password for a resource called ‘Discovery Education’. On Discovery Education you will find lots of different resources to support your child’s learning. Check out the section ‘Espresso’ – ‘KS2’.
I hope you have been able to log into Discovery Education. Today, I would like you to do the following activities.
English
Once in the section KS2, please go to ‘English’ – ‘Grammar and punctuation’ – ‘Punctuation’ – ‘Introduction to speech marks’ – Watch the video. Have a go at the quizzes and activity afterwards.
Things to continue with
Top Marks
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train
If you click on one of the four operations (+ – X ÷), it will bring you to a screen with lots of different activities. You can then choose for yourself the level of challenge you wish to have.
Mental Maths Train is a maths game which focuses on the essential vocabulary of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It can help children to understand what type of calculation they have to do when faced with word problems.
It is a multiple choice game that is suitable for children from 5 to 11 years of age. Mental Maths Train is also good for consolidation of times tables knowledge.
For the best experience press the full-screen icon in the top right corner of the game. As with all of our games, Mental Maths Train is tablet friendly and it works well on an interactive whiteboard.
Science
The next area of science we will be looking at is light and shadow.
The link provided will allow you to find a set of questions to base some research around. This can be done as an online activity or by setting up a real world experience. What shadows do you see in and around your home? Can you draw them or take pictures of them?

Bug Club
Keep going with Bug Club. I have updated everyone’s Bug Club account. Your login details are in the front of your home and school contact books on page, Wc 30th September 2019. I will be allocating activities on Bug Club for you to complete over the next while.
Have a great day.

Wednesday 15th April
Hello all!
It was a great first day back. It was not the same without seeing all of you, but the phone chats I’ve had have put a real smile on my face! I’m trying to get around everyone in these first few days and look forward to hearing from you. Hearing about all of the great experiences you are having together as families is wonderful and shows a real positive side to this whole sorry business.
Keep doing these, these are what is important. Look after each other and have patience when it gets tricky. The time you are spending with each other is a real gift and we only want you using it to share experiences that build your understanding and relationships with each other, keeping each other safe and happy in difficult times. The ideas we are putting on these pages are not orders or instructions, just suggestions if you are looking for things to do.
We will be sharing a longer term plan for ideas for home learning very shortly and will then provide daily inputs for those who really value that kind of structure, but until then, keep sending the photos of the wonderful things you are doing together.
This will not last for ever and I cannot wait until we are able to all be back together again.
All the best
Mr F.

Hi all and welcome back!
Hope you have all had a brilliant Easter break, apart from not being allowed out or seeing anyone other than your immediate family. I can’t wait to get back to school and see you all again…
Anyway, a lovely activity for today to get you back into learning. I think you will love it…
Go to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in America and take the virtual tour:
https://naturalhistory2.si.edu/vt3/NMNH/
spend your time having a look around and listing the names of all of the animals you can see. Don’t forget to visit the cafe and see humans eating in their natural habitat! Use the on-screen map to help you move around and don’t forget to look on the different floors (look at the top right of the screen.) How many different species can you find?
Good luck and enjoy!
Mr Hankin
Have you had a good Easter?
Happy Easter everyone!
I hope you have all had a safe and fun Easter in the unusual circumstance we are in.
I have been busy setting up my bike on my turbo trainer so I can cycle in my house. You can create your own indoor bike too! If you have a bike, attach your stabilizers. Raise the stabilizers using shoes or books so the back wheel is lifted off of the ground (make sure it is balanced!). Now you can cycle away!
Let me know if you give this a go.
Also… my vegetables have started grow! I will post a photo tomorrow. How are your green bean plants doing?
What projects have you been doing this Easter break?
Keep an eye on the website as I will be sharing new home learning ideas. It’s been great to see so many of you accessing Bug Club books and activities. If you need any help with anything, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for all of the lovely photos and messages so far!
Best wishes,
Miss Hall 🙂

Tuesday 14th April
Hello all!
It feels so good to be communicating with you all again, I miss our year 5 team!
Over the holidays, I have been looking at lots of different ways to set you some fun and interactive learning that keeps your brains growing whilst allowing you to make the most of your time at home with your amazing families (and hopefully more of this sunshine too!). I would love to hear some feedback on the learning set, this will help me to make sure we are all using our time wisely.
So, for today…
Literacy:
This week’s Literacy learning continues with our Journey Through the History of Magic Literacy text. Please google the Wizarding World of Harry Potter ( www.wizardingworld.com ), set yourself up an account (you will need an adult to help with this) and have a look at the different activities you can complete. I started with the sorting hat because I just could not resist and am proud to say that I am a Hufflepuff!
If you scroll down on the home page, at the bottom you will see: Explore the wonders of the Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition at home. Through this link, you can read lots of information from within the text and learn about things such as ‘how to study like a Wizard’, ‘Magical creatures through the ages’ and ‘skills for a modern wizard’.
Maths
Following us starting to look at negative numbers together in class, please watch the above videos on Discovery Espresso and then complete the Golf scores activity. It will help you out to draw yourself a number line from -10 to 10 so that you can add and subtract numbers to calculate scores. It will also be helpful to re-watch the video once you have the task in front of you. Negative numbers golf scores
I would love to receive an email of your learning if possible; this could be through an edited document that you send back to me, answers on a new document or photos of any learning completed on paper. If you are struggling to find a way to access the resources and complete tasks, please send me an email through the upload link at the bottom of the Haytor View website page.
I would like to give a special mention to BB for the amazing progress he is making with his Prodigy Maths Account! I would also like to give a huge well done to those of you who have completed the place value assessments that I set, your scores are fantastic!
Reading
Please make sure you are remembering to read every day, even if just for a short time. These strange times are giving a wonderful opportunity to get fully ‘stuck into’ your texts.
Look after yourselves, stay safe and have fun!
Miss Shopland
Lucas Jet is here to help…
Hello all,
Mrs Cousins has emailed me the following links (direct from Lucas Jet himself!) so that you can have a go at learning some of his circus skills at home:
Toilet paper tricks
Juggling socks
Have fun!
