Tuesday 19th January – Year 4 Remote Learning
Good morning year 4!
Don’t forget to keep sending in your pictures of what you have been up to for our class display.
Science Week
This week is your Science week and the theme is ‘Light’. Mrs Russell will be uploading your daily science activities. Today’s activities will be ‘To understand how we see light.’
Maths
Continue with yesterday’s suggested activities:
- Task 1 – Exploring Number Bonds
- Task 2 – Number Bond Fortune Teller
- Task 3 – Counting and Adjusting (there is a video to go with this).
Once you have completed the task and are confident with them move onto:
- Partitioning Method to Add (there is a video to go with this on Google Classroom).
Spelling
You will see I have set these out slightly differently. I feel exploring the word will support your understanding better. There is a high frequency word and a word from the statutory word list, choose the one that best suits you. I would suggest doing both. There will be a new word each day. As I said last week, I am interested in the quality of your learning rather than the quantity.
Grammar – Compound Sentences
Creative- Making a Sunset
Creative – See A Sunset Sentences
Reading
Today it is Dahl’s guided reading sessions. It will be today at 1:30pm. Remember to familiarise yourself with your book again. The link will come up on your stream page, on Google Classroom, nearer the time.
Remember today, on Google Classroom, we will be having our class video chat at 9:30am. Today we will be reviewing last week’s spelling. The link will be on our Stream Page. We will also have our class daily story at 2:15pm.
See you later.

Monday 18th January 2021 – Remote Learning Year 4
Good morning year 4!
I hope you had a good weekend. I have been looking at your Roman projects and they look great; full of facts! You have clearly put a lot of work into it. It is really encouraging that you are taking the time to look at each other’s and comment on them. Miss Wick’s is in the process of downloading the projects from Purple Mash; I will get these uploaded to our stream page throughout the day.
This week is your Science week and the theme is ‘Light’. There should be a lot for you to investigate around your home. Mrs Russell will be uploading your daily science activities.
Spelling
Investigating Science words.
Maths
Maths – Number Bonds and Counting and Adjusting
This week we will be moving our learning forward to counting and adjusting, however if you do not feel confident with your number bonds please continue with the activities I set last week.
On today’s suggested activities there are 3 tasks:
Task 1 – Exploring Number Bonds
Task 2 – Number Bond Fortune Teller
Task 3 – Counting and Adjusting (there is a video to go with this).
Be comfortable going at your own pace with your maths learning. We have talked a lot in class about knowing where ‘you’ are with your learning and if you move on too fast those ‘gaps’ in our learning become bigger. At the same time, challenge yourself! You will be amazed at what you can achieve!
Grammar
Last week I set you a task on Bug Club looking at connecting clauses. I have set you two tasks to consolidate your learning.
Creative
Exploring light in your home.
Reading
Today is the launch of our guided reading sessions. Morpurgo group you’re up first! It will be today at 1:30pm. Remember to familiarise yourself with your book again. The link will come up on your stream page, on Google Classroom, nearer the time.
Remember today, on Google Classroom, we will be having our class video chat at
9:30am. The link will be on our Stream Page. We will also have our class daily story at 2:15pm.
See you later.

Friday 15th January 2021 – Year 4 Remote Learning
It is Friday, Funday Year 4!
Wow, wow, wow! What a week it has been! For me the main purpose of this week was for you to stay connected to each other and we have been doing that in abundance. This has been in lots of different ways; telephone calls, emails, messages and Google Meet. Although we are not all together physically, I still feel that we are very much connected and our learning community is buzzing all the time!
Celebrations
Before we move onto today’s activities, let’s give a huge round of applause to Amelia and Paige!
Last week, Amelia was nominated for ‘I take pride in working independently.’ You have really stepped up your learning in year 4; taking pride in the quality of work you are producing, and ensuring you are asking for help when you need it. Fantastic work Amelia, keep it up!
This week Paige was nominated for ‘I recognise and value difference’. Paige has been in school and has been supporting all the children in our bubble. She has been demonstrating what you all do fantastically, and that is understanding each one of us is unique and we all bring something different to our class. You have been a great support Paige!
Friday would be your make and take session in class so today is going to be no different…let’s get creative!
History – Romans
The bits I have seen from your history projects have been amazing! Today I would like you to finish it off. Instead of posting these to me privately, upload them onto our Google Stream page (or email them to me to upload) so everyone can see the hard work that has gone into creating your fact file/presentation/poster.
Before we meet on Monday, I would like everyone to take a look at them and we can discuss them during our Monday morning catch up.
If you have completed them on Purple Mash, make sure they are saved and we can print them for you to present when we return to school.
I can’t wait to see them!
Mosaic – Roman Mosaic
I would like you to have a go at creating your own Roman mosaic. There is a video for you to watch explaining how you can do this at home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X22M2j-JS-g
There is also a Mosaic Tiled Sheet should you wish to use this and colour your own patter.
The same as your history project, upload them onto our Google Stream page (or email them to me to upload) so everyone can see the hard work that has gone into them. Please put these in a safe place at home and make sure you bring them to school when we all return.
Maths, Grammar and Spelling
I would like you to finish off the activities I have set you over the week. It is quality I am looking for, not quantity. I would rather you knew five of your spellings well than guess ten of them.
Remember today, on Google Classroom, we will be having our class video chat at 9:30am.
This afternoon, at 2:15pm, you will be meeting with Mrs Russell. This will not be our usual story time. Next week is our Science week and Mrs Russell would have been teaching you Science if we were at school. She has planned some great activities for you to complete. Mrs Russell will explain these later today.
Looking forward to seeing you later.

Getting Reacquainted with Reading
I understand that through these challenging times reading can look different to each one of us. The use of contact books may be kept up-to-date, which is great, however for some of you, you may have found other ways of discussing what you have read.
Understanding and comprehending what you have read is really important in developing our reading skills, therefore we are going to start our guided reading sessions to support you with this.
I will be posting an announcement to each group about their reading session. You will have a guided reading session with me, weekly at 1:30pm, and then a follow up task to complete (much like we do in class). The book that we will be reading will be allocated to you through Bug Club. The first session for each group will be getting reacquainted with the book you were reading with Mrs Russell.
I believe this will be a great way for us to stay connected in smaller groups!
Keep an eye out on your announcements on Google Classroom.

Good Morning year 3.
We are nearly at the end of the week, today’s suggested learning has only two worksheets for you.
For geography and writing the sheet is rather long, I do not expect you to remember everything in it, but you can have some fun creating a picture from it.
Geography and writing – how a river is formed.
For maths you have a fortune teller to make to help you with your number bonds.
Maths fortune teller challenge
If you have not managed to complete the work from previous days, or you are working a few days behind please do not worry. Do as much as you can.
There will be another opportunity for a class chat today on Google Classroom at 11:30 and story time at 2pm. I will post the links for you all to join in.
Later this morning there will be some announcements regarding Guided Reading, so please keep an eye on Google Classroom for this.
Have an amazing day,
Mrs Brown.
