Year 4
Year 4 Time to Think Trip – Hay Tor
On Wednesday 16th June, it was our class turn to go to Hay Tor on Dartmoor. We were very lucky to have beautiful weather which allowed us to see more of the stunning views in our local area. Our parents and carers came along with us which made the trip extra special. We can’t wait to go on another Time to Think Trip!
“I liked seeing the horses and cows.”
“I saw a face, on the rocks, on Hay Tor.”
“I spotted a Fox Glove.”
“People were screaming because of the beetles.”
“There were so many beetles that we have to run from.”
“The rock looked like toes.”
“I liked seeing the Moor Otter.”
“I enjoyed seeing the views and the ponies.”
“I enjoyed using my binoculars and seeing everything close up.”
“I enjoyed seeing and taking a picture of the rock.”
“I enjoyed the view.”
“I liked seeing the foals.”
“I enjoyed having the class picture taken.”
The circus came to Haytor View!
On Thursday Lucas and Johnny came to our school to teach us circus skills. We learnt how to use diablos, flower sticks and juggling balls. They amazed us with a fantastic show. The unicycle was really high and we got a chance to take part!
“Lucas and Johnny were really impressive”
“I enjoyed learning how to do flower sticks”
“I learnt how to balance a peacock feather on my chin”
“I enjoyed learning how to spin plates”
“It was great watching them juggle”
“I enjoyed being part of their act on Johnny’s shoulders!”
“I learnt to keep trying and sometimes it can take years to achieve what you want!”
Mr Patchett’s Impact Day
Last Tuesday, Mr Patchett from Newton Abbot College, came into our school to support us with our PE. We really enjoyed this session, working with Mr Patchett. We focused on skipping and how we can challenge ourselves. It sounds simple but this proved to be quite tricky at times!
“I enjoyed learning to skip with my friends”
“I enjoyed learning new tricks and getting better at skipping”
“I enjoyed seeing Mr Patchett and I enjoyed skipping faster”
“I became a better skipper”
“I learnt different tricks and techniques”
The Big Ask!
This week all the children in year 4 will be participating in the Big Ask!
The Big Ask is a survey from the Children’s Commissioner and is a chance for all adults and children to be heard. After a difficult year, it’s time that adults really gave something big back to our young people.
- What do you think is important for your future?
- Do you think anything is holding children back?
Tell the Children’s Commissioner and you will be part of making a huge difference! They will use what you tell them to tell the people who run the country how to make life better for you and younger people.
Be heard!
Back Together!
It has been great being back together again. We have been all been supporting each other in rebuilding our classroom community. We are enjoying seeing everyone, working together, playing games and being out in the sun.
Over the last few weeks, in groups, we have been creating our own board games. Once they were made, trialed and tested we shared them with the year 3’s. This was really good fun!
We are looking forward to collaborating more with each other over this term.
Good morning year 3 and 4!
We hope you are well, safe and are relaxing at home with a warm hot chocolate on this chilly morning.
We will try to be in touch with everyone today to check in. There will be learning posted on the Splash page by tomorrow morning for you all to access. We will also be exploring the use of Google Classroom over the next couple of weeks, with the hope to use this more.
Speak to you all soon!
Take care of yourselves and your families.

Suggested Summer Activities
Hi all,
With summer fast approaching, we are nearing the end to what has been a very different year in school. We have all learned how to learn in different ways and we have all learned lots of new skills. So, for being so resilient, brave and brilliant, you should be ever so proud of what you have all done over the past number of weeks. Remember, you are great learners and have so much new life experience to share as a result of the past couple of months we have not been in school. I can’t wait to hear all about it when we return to school.
In the meantime, here are some suggestions for learning to keep in touch with learning over the summer holidays. If you could keep in touch with times tables, spelling (high frequency spelling list and year 3 and 4 spelling list) and handwriting it would be beneficial. Remember we have signed you up to Prodigy Maths which is a great resource to keep maths skills on the boil. All pupil’s have login details which were sent home in the learning packs children received in when they came into school. If you need a password, please get in touch before Wednesday and I can get it to you.

Free Fun Online Timestables Resource
Hi all,
I was doing a little research into times tables resources online and I came across this one. It’s called ‘Maths Chase’ and looks to be a fun way to learn and to test out our times tables knowledge.
In year 3 and year 4 there is a big focus on getting to grips with times tables, not just knowing them but to be able to recall them quickly. To support this over the summer months would be of enormous benefit as we have discussed in class when introducing you to Prodigy Maths.
The link to the ‘Maths Chase’ website is below. It is free and does not require any sign up or login details. Have a look and see what you think. It looks to be a fun interactive tool to support your times tables learning.

I hope you are all safe and well.
Best wishes,
Mr Whitty
Create your own ‘Mash Up Pet’
Hi all,
During your week in school we invented and discussed our ‘Mash Up Pet’. Today using the mash-up you created, we would like you to design a 3-Dimensional (3D) version of your mash up pet using anything you can find. You may need to ask an adult to use recycling, stuff from the shed or even things from your garden. You can use anything you like including string, tape, glue to hold it together. If you have not already created a mash up pet, you can do so by copying and pasting the following link into an web browser or address bar at the top of your internet page.
Don’t forget to post pictures of your creation via the upload page on the school website! We would love to see what you have created.
Have fun and get creating….
Take care and stay safe
