Thursday 23rd April Cooking Lunch and Handwriting that is not handwriting!?!

Hello All Good Morning 

The weather keeps getting better and better. What a fabulous day it was yesterday. I hope that you all managed to get outside in the garden or for a walk. I wonder if you found any flowers in your garden or on your walk? 

Last week I wrote about the Baking because you had been sharing with me how much your children were enjoying baking cakes, and biscuits.  Baking covers All areas of learning, Maths, Literacy, Physical development, Concentration, Science, Creativity,  Personal and Social development  etc … as well,  you have the wonderful smells of baking and then you get to eat the end results!! 

I have been sent photos of someone cooking their own LUNCH..  Cooking requires so many fine motor /physical and concentration skills; mixing, cutting, grating, pouring, chopping etc 

Have you ever made your own sandwich for lunch? …spreading  your own butter on bread and adding your own topping…? Or added your own topping onto your own pizza and grating additional cheese?

I wonder what you have cooked?  I’ve  added the recipe just in case you would like to try…

I’ve have also had some new DEN pictures sent to me…I love the way that you all adapt to this building challenge and make these den’s suit your needs. Brilliant. What also makes me smile is how many siblings are working closely together. Fantastic Fun being able to share learning.

Today’s challenge was inspired from assault course photos a family had created at home. When completing an assault course …children are actually handwriting…but they don’t know it because they are having FUN. To be able to write and draw children need to have strong upper arm muscles and a strong core.

I wonder if you, your brother or sisters and your parents can Crab Walk????  A core strengthening activity 

Crab Walk Game ……
You need

An area of floor or grass and a bean bag or small soft toy.

How to do it

Get your child to sit on the ground with their hands and feet on the floor, fingers pointing behind them, raise their bottom off the floor to make a table shape. In this position get them to walk backwards, like a crab, to a destination and back again. Put a beanbag or soft toy on their tummy – make sure they keep their bottom up otherwise the toy will fall off!

As this activity is quite demanding only ask your child to go 2 to 3 metres at their first attempt, as the child’s endurance increases you can increase the distance.

To add variety you can add an obstacle course or follow-my-leader to the game.

Hello Everyone

What a beautiful sunny day Wednesday turned out to be! I was in school but was able to enjoy the warmth and catching up with staff and parents I was able to phone!Mrs Breakwell told me how she was enjoying being at home with her little girl but would occasionally like 5 minutes peace to herself! I am sure lots of the mummies will be feeling like this in these very strange times! This reminded of a lovely story written by Jill Murphy about the large family so I have added it for you all to enjoy!

 

Today I have been sent some photos of your learning at home! It is good to see that you have been trying to get worms to the surface by using water and stamping the ground!

I have liked seeing that a lot of your fun learning is taking place outside. It was wonderful to see these photos of making rainbow foam! Its so easy you need a bowl, a whisk, washing up liquid and food colouring just add them in a bowl and whisk to see how many bubbles you can make!

So much learning is going on in this fun activity! Physical skills to whisk and use your fingers to explore the foam. Being creative by Adding colours and watching which new colour emerges. Being imaginative by adding small cups, plates junk containers to make a cafe to serve drinks to your family! By Using your small animal toys to make up stories as you create an adventure through the bubbles! You can use shaving foam to create a similar effect! Why not have ago and upload the photos of your bubbly foam!

It was lovely to see this happy collage! The backing for this picture looks like a piece of fabric and what lovely items have been found to cut out and stick on! Thank you and well done I think this photo will brighten up the card for Captain Tom!

The warm sunshine yesterday inspired some of you to go on a creature hunt and to draw your own pictures of flowers as was suggested by Mrs Heap’s lovely flower photos, I know that I am going to see how many different flowers I can spot on my daily walk tomorrow! Do you think I can find a flower for each colour of the rainbow? You could try this as well and we can see what we managed!

Hello All

What a beautiful day yesterday turned out to be! During our daily walk my dog Ollie was so warm he went for a paddle in the cool water of a stream! I did not join him but watched as he tried to pull a fallen tree out of the stream which made us smile! because Ollie is a little dog who thinks he is big!

Yesterday I had some messages about what you are finding in your garden. Although our challenge was around worms many of you are finding other creatures as well! Perhaps today you would like to use the attached garden creatures hunt sheet to tally how many of each creature you can find or you can make your own sheet up with the help of your families! Mrs Heap has been busy in her garden and on her daily walks she has been enjoying the flowers she can see. She has made a sheet of some of the flowers she has found and she thought you would like to see them and see if you can see similar flowers in your outdoor spaces or on your daily walks! Challenge: make a model of a flower with your construction kits, can you use play dough to make a flower or carefully look closely at a flower to paint and draw. think about the number  and shape of petals , the stem, the position of the flowers and so on

Maybe you have a pet at home and you could make something to make them feel cosy or as my children did when they were little create an obstacle course for your pet to negotiate!

Wednesday 22nd April Spring Hunts and Flowers

GOOD MORNING Happy Wednesday

What a LOVELY afternoon I had yesterday as I was able to hear some more of your voices again. I will continue to phone families to say HELLO over the next few weeks so that we can keep in touch. However, if you have any questions or wish to share your child’s play we are here and ever so happy to receive messages and photos regularly. We will email your child back so that we can continue to keep in touch and have an awareness of their interests. 

I was sent some lovely photos of your bug hotels and stick homes….. Have a look.…  Remember every bug hotel, house or tower will be different. You might also like to build one with your brothers or sisters.

When I got home from work, I went on a walk, it was such a beautiful evening. Look what I spotted!  

I know others have seen horses on their walks…

I know that YOU! spotted a horse on your scavenger hunt.

Last week Miss Lofthouse set an outside scavenger hunt challenge. Her new hunt is like a rainbow…You can complete this hunt inside or outside.. 

  • Find something Red

  • Name an animal that is yellow
  • Name a vegetable  that is orange
  • Name a plant that is green

I heard yesterday that some of you are concentrating for LONG periods of time when playing with playdough…Playdough is brilliant in helping you become very creative and in strengthening your fingers. Well Done, Great Learning

Hello everyone

As I type it is a beautiful sunny morning so it seems that you are set for some lovely fun in your outside spaces today! I wonder if yesterday you were able to try out the Natural History Museum link to getting worms to the surface and if you did how many worms came up? If not, take a look at this today and have a try~ please send me some photos of you trying this!

Miss Butler has posted 2 new worm related activities on the Base1 foundation stage post. The first is a link to You Tube telling of the story “Superworm” which I am sure some of you will know but it is worth listening to again; if you have this book you can read along with the video. The second activity looks really fun as you can make your own jelly worms!!

I would like to remind you of the song we sometimes sing at school “there’s a worm at the bottom of my garden” several versions of this can be found on You Tube I liked the Mr Tumble version! Take a look and sing along!I wonder if you can find out something interesting about worms?

What do they like to eat? What do they not like to eat?

From my phone calls I know many of you are still trying to remember all your phonic sounds and tricky words which is great! Why not set a challenge that you are timed as you say the sounds and or the tricky words using a digital timer: most phones have a stopwatch timer on them! Can you get faster? This will mean the number will get less!

You might not have as many straws as they demonstrate because of the plastic waste but you might have a couple somewhere in your house.  If your can’t make worms, what other ice cube trays do you have at home so you could try making different jelly shapes?

Twig tower block

Today’s Den and Bug Challenge.… On your walk today or from what you can find in your garden, gather some sticks and find an undisturbed, sheltered spot outdoors. Pile up the stick and stuff the gaps with smaller twigs and dry leaves. You will be building a home for ladybirds and woodlice who will love to crawl into the crevices and hide among the leaves.

If you have time and would like to draw a HAPPY picture for your windows to cheer up people on their daily walk, please  do send a photo to us. We would like to use these HAPPY pictures to say Happy 100th Birthday to Captain Tom. He has walked 100 lengths of his garden for NHS Charities and our fantastic NHS workers. He is still continuing to walk.. I will print and post all of the HAPPY drawings I receive as one large card from us all at the end of the week.

Hello Everyone!

We hope you all had enjoyable weekends? Did you manage to go on a daily walk? If you did, like us, you must have seen what the rain on Friday and Saturday has done to the plants, trees and flowers!

I saw that they all seemed to have grown taller and fatter and seemed even greener! I also noticed as I went up my garden to my compost heap more garden creatures out and about! I counted 10 snails on the top of the compost heap!

I wonder have you noticed any garden creatures in your gardens, on your balcony or on your daily walks?   What have you seen?

Why are these small creatures so important to our world?

Miss Butler has found a funny story about a diary of a worm. Please go onto Foundation stage home learning base 1 and you will be able to click on the YouTube video and watch and listen to this story. Or google YouTube diary of a worm!

There are some fascinating facts about worms  on the Natural History Museum website. Watch a short information video about worms (2 minutes), it is fascinating and will inspire you to try and encourage worms to the surface so you can really see them!

It was good to continue to phone many of you on Friday, those of you who were out I will try to phone again on Wednesday when I am next in school. Since these calls I have been delighted to see your photos of your home learning  ~ thank you for taking the time to up load them.  It seems that you have enjoyed using the white boards and pens please send me some photos of your whiteboard creations!

Most of you will have seen the wonderful fund raising Captain Tom has been doing for NHS charities. What a hero! Miss Butler and I thought it would be a lovely gesture to send him some of the drawings you have been doing or could do for his 100th birthday! Keep drawing special pictures and please send them to us so we can send them to captain Tom! This is a lovely challenge I feel!!

Monday 20th April A worm story and hunt!

Hello Good Morning Everyone.

I hope you have had a lovely weekend, even in the rain. The plants and wildlife will have been delighted to have seen the rain on Friday and Saturday. Maybe you went on a welly walk and enjoyed jumping in the puddles. Today I am going to introduce you to a focus we would have started if we were in school together.

Two questions we would have been looking at are ….What lives in the garden?

Why do animals choose to make homes underground?

I know you are good at finding and searching for mini beasts,  you often brought snails and woodlice into the classroom to show us all.  Looking at the Foundation Stage garden last week we spotted a GIANT spider in the blue barrel .. It was very LARGE! .What can you spot outside today?

Another challenge I will continue all week is asking if you would like to draw a picture for your windows and then send them in.  I will also use these images to say THANK YOU and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Captain Tom We have spoken about large numbers and always celebrate our Birthdays together.  Did you hear about Captain Tom who will be 100 on 30th April, such a Special Birthday. He has been amazing and walked 100 times around his garden before his 100th Birthday. I think he would love to be sent some of your lovely pictures as a card. i will print them out and send them to him at the end of the week.

Friday 17th April

Hello everyone!

Its our first wet day for some time but I think the gardens, fields  woods and parks are all thankful for this rain! You can still go outside and jump in puddles if you have wellie boots on and maybe use an umbrella as well!

When I have been taking my dog for a walk I have enjoyed looking at pictures of rainbows in peoples windows they are all very different and it makes my walk very interesting! Your challenge over the weekend is to draw or paint a picture to put in your window to help brighten everybodies day as they past your house or flat as well as saying a huge thank you to all the people who are working so hard to care for others and the NHS!  It would be lovely to see the pictures you create so maybe you could upload them so I can see them!

Carry on sharing books together and reading your bug club books!
