What a great way to finish our half term!
Today was pretty special.
At the end of each week, we come together and reflect on our week together and choose someone to take the ‘Star Learner’ trophy home for a weekend.
As it is the end of term, we had a ‘Star Learner for the term’ instead. It was wonderful to be part of this and to hear the children proposing and
describing why they felt that certain individuals deserved to take the trophy home.
It is such a hard decision to award the trophy to one person as this leaves 26 children disappointed, but we chose the person who we believed really deserved recognition for the effort, resilience and bravery they have shown to make the progress they have made this term.
Well done to you! You know who you are and we are all very proud and pleased to be part of your class!
Summarising our Bug Club reading books.
The final element when we have read a book is to summarise it.
We used our creative project time today to give the children a bit of extra time to explore different ways to summarise their books.
What they came up with was amazing! The children drew on much of the creative learning they have experienced so far and applied this to the task set them with a
mazing results.
One team even created a stop motion animation of their story using lego models! WOW.
What a great way to end a half term.
I cannot wait to see how these children grow and develop over the coming months!

Life Education Bus – Years 3 and 4 Base 1
This morning the children of Base 1 took a closer look inside our bodies in the Life Education bus. Inside the bus, we met Helen (Life Educator), Harold and The Brain. The Brain taught us about how messages are sent around the body and back to our brains again. It does this in a system called the nervous system. We looked a little bit deeper into our bodies and learned how our lungs work, the large and small intestine, the liver, as well as the heart, veins and arteries. After this the class discussed how to look after our bodies and of the negative effects smoking and alcohol can have on the human body.
It was clear to see that the children really enjoyed the experience. At the end of session, the whole class got the chance to meet Harold, as we made our way back to class. Afterwards, the children were heard saying things like,’ That was so cool,’ ‘I really loved it,’ the brain is so powerful – it makes us move’.

Our personal favourite comment was, ‘I use my brain for growth mindset.’

It’s not rocket science… well actually…
As part of their learning around Space and the Planets, year 2 spent the week running rocket tests on the school field.
The week started with us just firing rockets to see what happened, explaining and exploring how they worked, developing our questions and deciding how we could present any data that we collected.
Day 2 saw us trying to answer our first question “How does the amount of water in the bottle affect the distance the rocket flies?”
We decided we needed to run a fair test, changing just the amount of water with each test, to find an answer. Our understanding of fractions helped us decide how to change the amount of water we put in each rocket.
Day 3 we focused on determining which scale would be best to show people how far each rocket traveled so we all knew how much water would be best to use in our tests and then started to plan our rocket designs.
Day 4 was the creation day. The children were all given an identical plastic bottle and challenged to create a rocket that would fly furthest. we had talked about air resistance and explored why racing cars are pointy. The children really enjoyed this and created some fantastic rocket designs.
Day 5 was the testing. We all nervously waited on the field for our rockets to lift off. we got quite a shock when one flew so far, it looked like it was going to shoot over the hedge at the end of the field! The winning design was sheer simplicity, without any of the fancy fins or decorations, just the appliance of science!

We had a fantastic week of rich, challenging, exciting outdoor learning. We can’t wait to do something like this again!
