Hi guys!

Visit the Discovery Education Espresso website

Log-in with the username and password you were given (you put it on the back of your Reading and Contact book on a sticker.)

Click on these options:

Choose ‘When and where was Ancient Greece?’

Watch the video

Activity: (on lined paper in your learning pack.)

Use the internet to plan a history discovery holiday for you and a friend to Greece. Where will you go? Where will you fly from? Where will you visit when you are there? Which historically important sites? How much will everything cost? Which hotel will you stay in? Design a daily itinerary (timetable) of what you will do and how long you will spend in each place.

Extension Activity: (on smaller piece of plain paper in your learning pack.)

Use the internet to help you choose your favourite historical site in Greece. Find an object of historical importance there. Draw it!

Easter Home Learning Year 3/4 Base 2

I am hoping you are all keeping yourselves safe and well.  Below is a copy of the home learning that Mrs Louise gave you on Tuesday in my absence.  You have a topic project, times table to practise, weekly reading and spellings that you felt you needed to practise.  I have also attached the statutory year 3 and 4 word list as well as a list of high frequency words.  I have included a sheet with different ways you could practise learning your sepllings.

Over the next week I will be posting learning that you are able to do at home.

Take care, Mrs Cousins

Easter Home Learning

I hope you have had a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Please find below your child’s Easter home learning. It is due back in the first week back after Easter. Reading and contact books still need to be used during the break.

Reading

A really neat way of fitting reading into your day is having the subtitles on when watching TV. This will work especially well if the sound is also turned down. This way your child can read what is being said rather than hear it. It would be a bit like a real life comic!

Bug Club

Keep going with Bug Club. I have updated everyone’s Bug Club account. Your login details are in the front of your home and school contact books on page, Wc 30th September 2019. I will be allocating activities on Bug Club for you to complete over the next while.

Discovery Education

On the front of the learning packs received towards the end of the week, there was a username and password for a resource called ‘Discovery Education’. On Discover Education you will find lots of different resources to support your child’s learning. Log in and explore to begin with. Check out the section ‘Espresso’ – ‘KS2’. I will be allocating learning activities from here over the next while. Keep tuned to the home learning page for more….

PE

‘PE with Joe’ is a live PE work out session which will run Monday to Friday at 9am. This will be broadcast on Joe Wicks’ YouTube channel ‘The Body Coach’ Please check it out. A great way to start the day!

Please remember to take plenty of breaks during your learning too!

Wishing you a very happy Easter. Take care and be safe!

Hope to see you again soon…..

Learning from Home March 2020

Here is the Year 2 Project work for the next few weeks

I hope you have as much fun being with your children when they learn at home as we do when they learn with us at school! They will need your time and patience over the coming few weeks and we know how hard that can be to give, particularly when things are tricky.

We will also be providing regular updates on these pages about future learning opportunities and ideas, so keep checking in.

Bug Club will be regularly updated, reviewed and feedback provided, so look out for this.

Your home learning kit includes log in details for Discovery Education website so you can keep up with your coding and will also provide access to a wide range of learning resources.

Best wishes

Mr F.

COVID 19 – TRAVEL ABROAD DURING THE EASTER BREAK

Most recent guidance from the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises that British nationals should avoid all non-essential foreign travel for the next 30 days. With this in mind we would ask that notify us should you choose to travel abroad during the Easter break in order that we can ensure that the necessary precautions are taken upon your return.

COVID 19 – THANK-YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND PATIENCE

Thank-you for your continued understanding and patience this week – these are genuinely unprecedented times and as a school we are keen to do our best for the community we serve but need to balance this with the consideration of the safety and welfare of everyone working in the school. We are grateful for the way in which people have waited for us to share our responses to the ongoing changes. Be assured we will always seek to keep you in the picture as developments occur and be here when we can.

Our 2 favourite things: Maths meets Vocabulary

What a great maths session we’ve just had!

While the nation feels like it is on the brink, Year 2 at Haytor View have got fully stuck in to exploring which of their mathematical models are most efficient in supporting their thinking around 2 digit addition.

They are also heavily utilising their growing mathematical vocabulalry.

We are using the term, ‘algorithm’ to describe the set of steps we take to find our answer and ‘augend’ to define the number we are adding onto. T he children have realised that the concrete models they might have chosen to use in the past are no longer the best ones for doing what they now want to do!

Lucas Jet – Circus Workshop

Wow!!!

On Thursday last we had an extraordinary experience in Base 1. The children all had the most fantastic time learning new skills at the circus workshop. Lucas and Jonny were great and the children learned so much about themselves by adopting a growth mindset. The tricks they were shown, they had to recreate. It was hard at first but the children kept trying, kept going and before long they could master it.

Well done everyone!!!

Rolling, rolling, rolling… I got to keep on rolling….

The diablos were tricky at first but I soon got the hang of it…

Lucas focused on the task at hand………

Steady does it….. Deep in concentration….

Proud as punch!!! Well done.. You kept trying and eventually you did it.

Look what I can do! Great sense of balance…

Even Mr Whitty had a go, he found the plate spinning really tough.

Some of the children’s comments were:

I enjoyed the performance, especially the juggling. – DB

The unicycle was the best bit and learning to do new tricks. – SM

The spinning plates were so cool. It was hard but I did it in the end. – TT

I loved the flower sticks they look so impressive. – AB

The diablos made me dizzy, all that spinning, but it was great fun. – IB

Cress Planting and Cheese Tasting

We followed instructions of how to decorate our own pots and then plant our own cress hair!

Jane then returned in the afternoon to support us as we followed  a question posed by a group who had been painting together the day before. The question was, What does goats cheese taste like? What about sheeps cheese? How does that taste? Can you get rainbow cheese? Can you get cheese with fruit in it? You can get smelly cheese. How does that taste?          Goats cheese ” It smells like ice-cream” Smelly cheese( Blue cheese) “ERR Yuck” was the first response! Then three children tasted this blue cheese, they ate a whole chunk before pulling a face! Next Week we are going to make mini pizzas with our outright winner of the taste test…Red Leicester Cheese!

Circus Skills ‘Look what we can do!’

We had such an AMAZING session where we all had the opportunity to watch and try our hand at circus skills. The children also watched a fantastic circus show at the end of the school day. WHAT a FABULOUS DAY.
