Circus in school!
Lucas Jet Circus Skills were in school last week. We had a fantastic time learning to juggle, throw ‘flower sticks’ and use a diablo. The children were a lot better than the adults, who really struggled! After our learning, we all sat down to watch the Lucas Jet guys do their stuff. They were amazing!
PARENT QUESTIONNAIRE
There are plans for our Parent Questionnaire to be with you later on this term, we haven’t had one for a while due to the unusual times we have been working and living in. However, as we look to forward planning parent voice is an important element as it supports us in having a broader perspective on how best to meet need.
The Big Ask – THINK BIG; BE HEARD; TAKE PART
We are supporting your children over the coming 2 weeks in taking part in ‘The Big Ask’. This is the largest survey of young people in England and is being led by Rachel De Souza, the new Children’s Commissioner for England. She is keen to hear from children and adults about their concerns and aspirations for the future.
As parents you can take part too – it takes just a few minutes and responses will show the Government what we all need to lead happier lives.
They are listening – so it’s up to us to share our thoughts and feelings – just visit thebigask.uk
THANK YOU
Wow! our attendance is strong this term – 97.4%! We really appreciate the measures you are all taking in keeping your school a safe place to be for our children and staff, as a result attendance is stronger than ever!
If you are unsure of whether to send your child to school, pick up the phone and have a chat with one of our admin team who will be happy to advise.
A REMINDER – SUPPORTING SOCIAL DISTANCING
Please can we remind parents of the following:
- Only one adult per child/family is allowed onto the school site at any time;
- Please don’t come onto the school site before 8.35am;
- Please arrive on time to collect your child at 3.15pm;
Please don’t gather around classroom doors;
MOVING FORWARD – IN THE SUNSHINE!
With our second week following the Easter break well underway we are really enjoying using the outdoors to support children’s return to social, emotional and academic learning this week. With the emphasis firmly upon reminding ourselves of and consolidating the relationships, awareness and understanding we have there has been plenty of fun in the sun!
The children have commented upon how good it feels to see children from both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 playing on the school field at the same time. It so easy to overlook how small things are making a big difference right now. With space available to us we have been able to maintain distance between KS1 and KS2 class bubbles by splitting the field, and as you look out and see 4 classes playing in the same space it brings reminders of the ‘normal’ that we miss and continue to yearn for. Of course we’re moving in the right direction and there’s so much to look forward to.
In our Monday morning Key Stage 2 assemblies our theme is ‘Totally Together’ – we have been exploring what it means and how it feels to be reunited. We are talking about how changes around us, and experiences that we are having, are leading us to look forward and be excited about the future again. As we do this we will also be acknowledging the questions and concerns that children still have as a result of their experiences over the last year. As we remain positive, and careful in how we have contact with others, it would be easy to imagine that the past year is behind us and all is good. We can however all recognise within ourselves, as it will be for children, that the past year has changed things for us and we may now have new needs – perhaps the need to be heard, acknowledged and supported. We are keen to support both children and wider families with this part of the journey.
Sadly we continue to be restricted in how we can welcome you into the building. There’ll be a real celebration when ‘normal’ Time to Think can happen each morning! In the meantime please be confident in sharing with us any questions you have, successes or challenges you are experiencing – we will always try to make any approach you make to us worth your while. WELCOME – IT’S GREAT TO SEE YOU ALL!
It has been marvellous seeing children and families joining us back at school this week, and what a week it has been! It is no wonder the sun has been shining, it has had a lot to smile on!
As always the children have bounded into school with beaming smiles and an eagerness to get back into class. There has been lots of laughter, chatting, catching up with friends and adults.
In assemblies and classrooms we have spent some time sharing children’s experiences from the Easter break, as well as exploring the feelings of being reunited. Children in Key Stage 2 have been clear that nervous as well as happy feelings come with the return to school. Given the experiences of the last year that children have lived this is so understandable and important to recognise. In their relatively short lives, like in our longer ones, any progress being made towards things returning to some sort of normal must feel very tentative – even as adults we can see ourselves being really wary about what might happen next can’t we? We’re keen that the experiences of all children in school consider their needs and feelings, comfortable and uncomfortable, so that we can build on the super work that you have done in supporting them over the last 12 months.
With all this in mind we are spending time reconnecting with the children’s prior learning in order to build on the solid foundations we have been striving to maintain during what has been a disrupted year.
Whilst we appreciate the difficulties of not having our usual ‘accessible’ building and staff, we want you to continue to be confident in that whatever questions you have, whatever challenges you are experiencing, please remember we are here to support you – we are always keen to hear from you.
