Vocabulary is a huge focus, not just in year 2, but across the school. I was very honoured to be invited again to present at the recent vocabulary 
conference with Jean Gross. The work we are doing at Haytor view and our commitment and approach to this crucial area is always well received by other practitioners and is apparently inspirational in its presentation! I don’t know about that but what we do know is that words, talk and vocabulary are absolutely crucial and that our children and parents are working hard on building word consciousness to support each other in developing, growing and securing their own vocabulary.
These are some of the words the children have discovered themselves through their home reading. We have shared, discussed and explored all of these words together in class and now children should feel more able to use these and the other words as their own. Hopefully, this will encourage an exponential growth in vocabulary as we all become empowered and enabled to grow our own vocabulary independently by capturing new words we read, see or hear each day.
