Following a visit to school by children’s environmental author Ellie Jackson, our Year 6 children decided to set an example to others and wanted to pick up plastic rubbish from a local beach. We wrote to GWR who helped us get there for free. When we got there, we borrowed litter picking sticks from the Nature Reserve then ventured onto the beach. We found all sorts of plastic litter that had either been left by people enjoying a day out or other rubbish that had been washed up on the beach by the tide. Fishing nets, floats, plastic bottle and clothing were all found and collected by us. We brought it all back to school to use in a sculpture next week…
