In year 2, we’ve been trying out a slightly different approach to the new words that the children encounter, capture and share when they are reading at home.

The reading team for that day will share their words with me before break in the reading club and then I quickly get them up on the board so we can all share them straight after break. We then read them and use our defining skills to work out what they might mean, then we work out what job they are doing in the sentence so we know if they are nouns, adjectives, verbs or adverbs and capture them on our class word sheet.

This seems to be working really well.
