What a brilliant start to a new year.
In the afternoon on the first day, we explored how we could make the sorts of 3D shapes we might need to make to create models in our creative project sessions in the afternoons.
This learning drew on what the children already knew about shapes, but also enabled them to develop their understanding of how 2D shapes can be used to create 3D objects.
The best aspect of the session was the team work that was going on. After the holidays, one child was finding the session a bit much. Another girl offered him a place in her team and showed him how to make the shapes he needed. It was brilliant to watch him move from being a modelled learner to becoming a scaffolded learner in just a few minutes and all because of the patience and support of one of his classmates.
I am really going to enjoy being with this class for the year!
