Welcome Back and Residential!

It has been so wonderful getting to know the new cohort of Year 5! They have all been wonderful role models and settled in to life upstairs well.

It was a real joy taking the class to Dewerstone Cottage to take part in the ‘Adventure Race’. It was full on; with lots of fun activities such as: river scrambling, zip lining, tunnel crawling, abseiling and tree climbing. Myself, Mr Whitty and Mrs Louise were so impressed with the resilience and determination that our children showed while away, with so many children pushing themselves out of their comfort zones.

Take a look at some of the fun we have been up to!

Daisi Art Workshop- Helen Foundation

Year 5 really enjoyed taking part in a Daisi art workshop led by local artist, Monica. The children explored their emotions through art, created charcoal pictures, had conversations through art in pairs, made marks to express their feelings and learned many different art techniques. In the afternoon they looked at different styles of abstract art by various artists and then chose emotions in their groups to paint in the style of abstract art. The results were incredible and it was lovely to see the groups so focussed in their work!

‘I found isolating parts of my body challenging but enjoyed seeing the scribbles turn into something cool.’
‘I’ve learnt how to express my feelings whilst drawing and painting.’
‘I enjoyed working as a team to create a masterpiece!’
Thank you to the Helen Foundation who funded the project which enabled our children to take part.
The Helen Foundation is an arts-based charity which supports and motivates young people in all branches of the arts in Teignbridge and South Devon. The Foundation provide school awards, workshops, bursaries and support young people to develop their talents and pursue their ambitions.

Year 5 Sports Olympics Afternoon – 16th March 2022

Last Wednesday, Year 5 attended Mr Patchett’s Sports Olympics event at Newton Abbot College. We had an absolutely amazing time trialing all the different activities and getting to know other students from other schools.

The children and adults had a brilliant time. Year 5 were great role models and ambassadors for our school and represented us beautifully.

“I enjoyed the hockey because my team kept winning!” – Alfie

“I enjoyed the game where we kicked the balls into a goal- there were sometimes 3 balls altogether… that was a bit confusing!”

“I loved the hockey. I’ve never done it before but it turns out I’m really good at it.” – Bella

Yr 5 West End Schools – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

On 9th March, we were lucky to have a workshop lead by an instructor from West End Schools. She taught us how to combine certain moves and dance routines to music in order to retell the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Check our our moves! Can you tell which part of the story we are doing?

Yr 5 Autumn Term

Our class have had a fantastic start to our Year 5 learning journey! We have enjoyed: exploring number and place value (including fun problem solving); exploring human and physical features of our local area; Anglo-Saxons; painting/sketching landscapes; writing a mindfulness story and dance… and much more!

I am so proud of each child’s journey this half term… well done everyone!

Take a look at some of our photos to see what we’ve been up to.

Key Stage Two Music with Kipp

At the start of this half term, we have welcome Kipp, a great music teacher, to Haytor View.  He has been offering music lessons to some of our Key Stage Two children.  This has seen the children engage with a variety of musical instruments.  The children have really enjoyed learning to play these and are looking forward to continuing their musical experiences throughout the year.
