A message from Mrs Bunce!

Hi everyone!

Thought I would share my lovely afternoon walk today. I got up close to my favourite bird, the robin, and some swans then found a lovely reflection on a tree. Also, a funny thing growing out of one tree… what could it be? What can you find when you go for walks?

Happy Thursday from Mrs Bunce 🙂

It’s Fri-yay!

Hello everyone, it’s Friday!

I hope you have all had a lovely week. I have loved hearing about your minibeast hunts and the other wonderful activities you have been doing. Just to let you know, you are all doing an AMAZING job and I am so impressed and filled with happiness sharing in the things you have been doing. You should all be very proud of yourselves!

Some activities you might like to do today:

It’s Friday so make sure you have lots of fun! You can get arty by creating some butterfly symmetry art. Use the video from the Woodland Trust and follow the instructions.

Word of the day: symmetrical. What does it mean? Can you use it in a sentence?

Keep up your reading and Bug Club! If you have read last weeks book and completed you activities, new books will have been allocated for you.

Look at your handwriting tricky words and practice writing your set 4 words. Can you use the words in a sentence?

If you haven’t already, using the information you have collected, think carefully about what a minibeast’s home looks like. What is it made of? Is it hot or cold? Is it dark or light? Design a minibeast habitat for one of the minibeasts you have discovered. Use My minibeast’s habitat to design what your minibeast habitat might look like.

Today Have a go at creating your own minibeast habitat! What material are you going to use? What will you put your minibeast home? Below are some ideas to inspire you creations.

Try to find an activity you can do for 10 minutes each day this week. If you can, send me a photo to show me what you have been doing. Can you keep it up until Friday?

Continue to enjoy the sunshine and stay safe! Today might be a good day to help someone in your family. Ask someone if they need any help with anything and see what you can do!

Have a lovely weekend!

Thursday 14th May

Hello all!

I am puffed out today! Harry and I have taken up indoor cycling and decided to cycle together last night, but I am quite competitive and wanted to cycle the furthest… I cycled for 60km and Harry cycled for 50km. Who cycled the furthest? I wonder what the difference between our distance is?

I have also spent time video calling my family and having a go at creating different games for us to play. We enjoy playing quiz masters and seeing who can answer the most questions and have also played the story game. In the story game, one person says one sentence from a made up story, then the next person adds on another sentence… until you have a completely crazy (and often very funny!) story.

Onto some activities you could do today:

Keep up your reading and Bug Club! If you have read last weeks book and completed you activities, new books will have been allocated for you.

Look at your handwriting tricky words and practice writing your set 4 words. Can you use the words in a sentence?

If you haven’t already, go on a minibeast hunt! Use minibeast-hunt to see which minibeasts you find. If you find a minibeast that is not on the checklist, take a photo and be a detective to find out what it is.

Word of the day: classify. What does it mean? How would you use the word in a sentence?

You could finish your investigation of the habitats of different mini beasts. Where did you find the minibeasts on you minibeast hunt? Have a go at using the Habitat sorting sheet to record your minibeasts and where you found them. Look at the other animals. What adaptations do they have?

Today look at the information you have collected. What kind of habitat did most of your minibeasts live in? Did anything surprise you? Is there anything you need to check again?

Using the information you have collected, think carefully about what a minibeast’s home looks like. What is it made of? Is it hot or cold? Is it dark or light? Design a minibeast habitat for one of the minibeasts you have discovered. Use My minibeast’s habitat to design what your minibeast habitat might look like.

Maths. Go onto BBC Bitesize  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zjh7mfr and have a go at the Addition and Subtraction Word Problems activity and lesson.

I have taken up doing 10 minutes of yoga a day. If you would like to join in with some yoga, have a go at Cosmic Kids yoga https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga  or set yourself your own keep active challenge! Try to find an activity you can do for 10 minutes each day this week. If you can, send me a photo to show me what you have been doing. Can you keep it up until Friday?

Continue to enjoy the sunshine and stay safe! Also try to make someone else smile today. What did you do to make them smile?

Best wishes

It’s a terrific Tuesday!

Hello all!

I’m getting my dancing shoes on today ready for a birthday boogie! A fun idea for you today; what game can you create using a balloon (or a ball!)? Some games you might want to try: work with someone in your home to move the balloon from your feet to your head without using your hands or letting the balloon touch the floor; put the balloon in between your legs, who can hop around the garden the quickest holding the balloon. Find more balloon ideas here https://www.balloonsgalore.co.uk/blog/fun-party-games-you-can-play-with-balloons/

Monday 11th May

Hello Year 1, it’s Monday again!

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend? I’ve spent a lot of time relaxing and reading in my garden, and, you guessed it, cycling. I really enjoyed our cooking week last week and have felt very inspired to try out some new recipes. As it’s my birthday tomorrow, I have made myself and Harry some “birthday” chocolate mousses and they seem to have turned out pretty well (we tried one, for quality control of course). If you want to have a go at making them at home, here is how you do it:

Ingredients

  • 1 table spoon of sugar
  • 25 grams of butter
  • 100 grams of dark chocolate
  • 3 eggs (with the yolks and whites separated)

You will also need: a cup, glass or other container to put your mouse into, a saucepan, a glass mixing bowl, scales a spoon and a whisk.

Method

  1. Break up the chocolate into small squares and put it into the mixing bowl with the 25g of butter.
  2. Add water into a saucepan and allow the water to simmer (not bubbly boiling, just small bubbles). Place the bowl of chocolate and butter on top of the water. Allow it to melt only stirring it a little.
  3. Once the chocolate and butter have melted together, carefully take the bowl out (adult job!) and place it on the side.
  4. Stir the 3 egg yolks into the chocolate.
  5. Now leave the chocolate because it’s time to whisk the egg whites! Whisk the egg whites until they form soft peaks (an electric whisk is best, we discovered that using a hand whisk is hard work!).
  6. Carefully, using a little at a time, fold the egg whites into the chocolate. Try not to mix much as you want lots of air in your mixture.
  7. Put your mouse mix into your serving dishes and put them in the fridge. It’s a good idea to leave them overnight to allow them to set.
  8. Once they are set, enjoy your homemade mouse!

SO onto this weeks theme! This week we shall be exploring science, thinking about mini beasts and where you might find them.

Some activities you might like to enjoy today:

Keep up your reading and Bug Club! If you have read last weeks book and completed you activities, new books will have been allocated for you.

Word exploring: what does the word habitat mean? How can you use it in a sentence? Can you share your sentence with 2 people or more?

What is a mini beast? Talk to the people in your home about what you think a mini beast might be.

Go on your own minibeast hunt. Use https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2019/04/minibeast-hunt/  to get some top minibeast tips. Use minibeast-hunt to see which minibeasts you find. If you find a minibeast that is not on the checklist, take a photo and be a detective to find out what it is.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/search.aspx?q=minibeast Have a go at one of the minibeast games on Top Marks.

Maths. Have a go at the  Adding by counting on   activity. If you can, use coins or other items from around the house to practice counting on.

I have taken up doing 10 minutes of yoga a day. If you would like to join in with some yoga, have a go at Cosmic Kids yoga at https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga  or set yourself your own keep active challenge! Try to find an activity you can do for 10 minutes each day this week. If you can, send me a photo to show me what you have been doing. Can you keep it up until Friday?

As always, do the things that make you happy. You might want to do something kind for someone because when you make someone else happy, this can give you amazing feelings!

Best wishes

Miss Hall 🙂

Friday 8th May

Today is VE day! A day where we celebrate Victory in Europe which marks the day in 1945 when Britain and its allies accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany, bringing the war to an end. On this day some people choose to celebrate by putting up bunting and having a street party! What will you choose to do to celebrate VE Day? An activity you might like to do is joining in with a VE Day song at https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/bring-the-noise/ve-day-2020/zksjjhv or creating your own bunting using bunting_template.

Thursday 7th May

Hi all!

Today is looking like another glorious day! A great day to open up the windows and enjoy time in the garden or taking your daily exercise outside. I have heard from some of you that you have been learning to ride your bike (which is amazing!). I will be taking out my bike today and soaking up some of the sunshine. I have also heard that there are different toy, treasure and rock hunts going on around the estate which sounds like lots of fun. Remember your sun cream and water if you are heading out too as it’s due to be a roasting day!

So this week you have explored different food groups and have began to think about what your own meal might be using your Meal plan. Today you can give you meal a go! . Make sure you look at your plan before you start so you know what you need. Talk to the adult(s) helping you about what you need to be careful of in the kitchen. Are there some jobs that your adult needs to do to keep you safe? Are the worktops clean and clear? As you start creating your meal, don’t be afraid of making changes if things are not working out.

Once you have finished creating your meal, think about how you are going to present it. Are you going to use a plate, a bowl or something else? Are you going to separate parts of your meal? Stack the different ingredients? Mix them? Make sure you take a photo of your meal as I would love to see what you have created!

You might want to take photos at each step of your cooking to help someone else to create your meal. You might want to use these photos to create recipe instructions or even start your own cook book!

For your maths today, have a go at measuring your ingredients accurately. What will you use to measure? Scales? A ruler?

Have a go at the part and whole day 4 activity. Remember you can use your part and whole plate to help you!

Enjoy reading together. What strange place in your home can you find to share a book? My favourite place is on my chair in my bedroom. Where is yours?

Keep going with Bug Club! Make sure you have answered all of the Bug questions in your book before closing so I can see that you have finished.

I have heard some great stories about how people are staying connected in this time. A great idea shared with me yesterday is cake sharing! Talk to your neighbour and find out their favourite cake/food. Could you surprise them by making it for them? Or you might choose to do a cake swap where you can swap recipes or creations with your neighbours.

Take care, stay safe and do things which make you happy!

Big smiles

Miss Hall 🙂

Welcome to Wednesday!

Welcome to another wonderful Wednesday!

How are your Food Diary‘s going? Yesterday we tried a new recipe, but we are still waiting for our food delivery which means we didn’t have many ingredients to choose from. We had: some courgettes, an onion, some pasta, garlic, some chicken breast, some passata and some grated cheese. We decided to cook it all together and see how it goes. It turned out to be very tasty!

Image preview Can you spot any of the food groups in my meal?

Have you tried to create any of own recipes? Why not have a look in the fridge and see what you can be inspired to create!

Have a go at planning your own meal Meal plan. Check to make sure you have all of your ingredients!

Maths . Have a go at the Part and whole activity. You can use your part and whole plate to help you.

Enjoy the sunshine and take a stroll! Have a go at playing the alphabet game. Can you spot something on your walk beginning each letter of the alphabet? For example: an apple, a brush, a car…

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Miss Hall 🙂
