This half term Year 1 have been learning about Mary Anning and her incredible life as a fossil hunter. As a part of our learning about fossils, we made our own salt dough fossils by mixing: 1 cup of flour, half a cup of salt and half a cup of water. We then moulded (a fantastic word shared by Bethany!) our dough into the shape of fossils before putting them in the oven to bake on a low heat for 3 hours.

We had some amazing creations from ammonites  to T-Rex bones!

Next we recreated a day in the life of Mary Anning and rediscovered our fossils outside on a ‘sandy beach’. Using the brushes to carefully remove the sand we shared some fantastic adjectives to describe how the fossils were, “rough”, “bumpy”, “strange”, “heavy”, “round”, “scratchy”.
