What a great maths session we’ve just had!
While the nation feels like it is on the brink, Year 2 at Haytor View have got fully stuck in to exploring which of their mathematical models are most efficient in supporting their thinking around 2 digit addition.
They are also heavily utilising their growing mathematical vocabulalry.
We are using the term, ‘algorithm’ to describe the set of steps we take to find our answer and ‘augend’ to define the number we are adding onto. T 
he children have realised that the concrete models they might have chosen to use in the past are no longer the best ones for doing what they now want to do!
